Responsibilities
The roles of Project Managers and Superintendents have both similarities and differences
Those working in these positions are in charge of ensuring that construction projects have a budget and adhere to it
The primary difference between Project Managers and Superintendents is that Project Managers typically oversee the administrative and decision-making aspects of a project and works both on-site and off-site, while Superintendents work on construction sites managing the daily operations of the jobsite
Roles and Responsibilities of SuperintendentsA Superintendent is the individual who oversees every step of the construction process, from the start of construction to completion
It is expected that the Superintendent will be responsible for cost control measures, materials ordering and procurement (with the PM), and the successful coordination of subcontractors
Working together the PM and Superintendent can update the schedule based on actual site conditions
Project Coordination: The Superintendent will coordinate the work of all trades and subcontractors, including layouts and coordination drawings to ensure that work is performed in accordance with the contract documents and without conflict.- Project Management: Working with the Project Manager, prepare and submit RFIs, COs and any other documents necessary for the successful completion of the project
Other shared responsibilities include:It will be the responsibility of both the Project Managers and Superintendents to communicate with the project team
The main office will be available to support you in the process used to make each project a success
The easiest way to do that is to communicate clearly either through a predetermined schedule of meetings or reports with the project team including but not limited to the main office, client, design team, subcontractors and vendors
Management Software: Project Managers and Superintendents will be required to be adept at using word processors, spreadsheets, and other management software for keeping track of details on a job site or for completing progress reports to be lodged with the company
