As a Registered Nurse (RN) in our Trauma/Surgical Intensive Care Unit, you will have the opportunity to increase your skills as an integral part of a specialized team. This 24-bed unit works closely with UCSF, providing a unique and comprehensive view of patient care in an environment that encourages learning. In this role, you will work closely with Medical and Trauma/Surgical teams, including an Attending Faculty member, fellows from our 16 fellowship programs, residents, and advanced practice nurses. We are known for innovative staff scheduling, collaborative teamwork, and providing care for the highest acuity trauma and surgical patients in Central California.

Community Regional Medical Center is the largest of our three main hospitals and the flagship hospital of the Central Valley. This academic-affiliated, Level 1 Trauma Center is located on a 58-acre campus in downtown Fresno. It features one of the largest and busiest emergency departments in California as well as a comprehensive burn center. Our hospital serves 2.5 million people within 9 counties, averaging a daily census of 641 patients.

Responsibilities: The population of Trauma/Surgical ICU patients ranges from single to multi-system injuries, acute exacerbation of chronic health problems, and acute illness. Because of this, you should be someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to caring for a variety of patients. Our medical team is highly trained and credentialed in a multitude of procedures. Likewise, our nurses are highly competent and skilled to manage any Trauma/Surgical patient.

As a nurse in this unit, you should have the desire to be a patient and family advocate, have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and have the desire to work closely with other disciplines. Qualifications: Experience and Education Minimum Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited registered nursing program.
  • Current RN license for the state of California, BLS.
  • National Institutes of Health (NIH) Stroke Scale Course must be obtained within 6 months of hire or transfer into job.
  • Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within one year of hire or transfer into job.
