Nurse Educator - Ophthalmology
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides education and resources to enhance patient care. Assists staff with educational needs, problem resolution, time management, and critical thinking skills development. Collaborates with medical providers, patient care staff, and unit management in the planning, implementation, and delivery of educational curricula. Implements clinical skills activities within established clinical and preceptorship models, monitors data trends, and implements educational strategies to ensure compliance with quality standards. Provides staff support in the development of patient care plans, incorporating evidenced-based research and national standards. Consults with and serves as a clinical resource for unit management to ensure quality patient care. Educates technical and patient care staff in the use of new equipment, supplies, and instruments, and coordinates in-service training and workshops. Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Maintains professional knowledge by affiliating with professional and technical organizations, and participating in applicable continuing education programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Valid Florida RN license
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of experience

Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others.

Department-Specific Orientation
Develops annual department-specific education plan for all staff. Maintains ongoing education competencies of designated preceptors Unit New Hires/Transfers:
Assess learning needs, develops action plans, and evaluate outcomes.
Meets with nurse manager, preceptor, orientee to evaluate performance and monitors weekly goals attained.
Follows up on outstanding clinical opportunities for new hires during orientation and mentorship. Subject matter expert in the pre, intra, and postoperative phases of Ambulatory Surgery. Facilitates optimal patient care through the ongoing participation in clinical practice, staff education, and quality management research. Maintains clinical competency with hands hands-on experience within the different Ambulatory Surgery/Clinic phases of care. Utilizes evidence-based standards to identify and define staff competencies. Familiarity with AAAHC, Joint Commission, AORN, and ASPAN standards and guidelines. Adapts to changing work demands by being able to function as a staff nurse when needed. Maintains up to date ,innovative knowledge in the field of ophthalmology specialty.
Department Specific Qualifications
Education:
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of Nursing.
2. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred, if no MSN, must enroll in an MSN program within one year of hire.
Certification and Licensing:
1. Unencumbered and current Florida Nursing License.
2. BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
