Summary
The Nurse Extern, is currently enrolled in a School of Nursing and has successfully completed a Nursing fundamentals course. When on duty, s/he assists patients with activities of daily living and provides basic patient care designed to meet the physical, emotional and social needs of the patient. The Nurse Extern may also be cross-trained to perform unit secretary clerical duties. The nurse After appropriate validation, the Nurse Extern may perform nursing practice interventions learned within his/her clinical training, supported within the scope defined by FLBON.
The extern will learn the duties, responsibilities, and skills needed to assist in the perioperative setting. The perioperative extern will learn how to assist in all aspects from Preadmission testing, ambulatory care, sterile technique in the OR and Endoscopy, and Sterile processing and post anesthesia care. The Nurse Extern will also learn how to handle and sterilize surgical instruments, set up operating rooms, monitor patient conditions, and maintain patient records.
Qualifications
EducationMinimum: Current completion of the second Clinical Nursing course within an accredited school of Nursing Program.
ExperiencePrior clinical experience in area of expertise preferred.
