The Pharmacy Trainer is a registered pharmacy technician who will have attained mastery in multiple roles within the pharmacy. This individual will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of didactic and practical training of all positions within the pharmacy, developing training materials and curriculum, train other trainers and assess employees upon training completion.  The Pharmacy Trainer will also be responsible for assisting and performing all required Technician and Technician Lead tasks as business needs dictate to include routing of pharmacy orders through receipt, review and verification of patients’ prescriptions. prepping and scanning documents, verifying patient data, submitting prescription orders into pharmacy data system and/or filling, processing, dispensing and shipping of medication as needed. The Pharmacy Trainer may also work directly with patients and providers to set up deliveries, assist with order processing as needed for Labcorp Specialty Pharmacy and adhere to the safety practices of the pharmacy to ensure quality of care for patients.

Essential Job Duties: 

Training

  • Demonstrates ongoing competency in pharmacy Technician Lead duties and responsibilities.

  • Coordination, oversight and implementation of initial area-specific on-boarding and training for new employees

  • Coordination and oversight of experiential training for individuals enrolled in all pharmacy roles in collaboration with Supervisors of said roles.

  • Evaluation of on-boarding and training, responding to feedback, and developing plans to address opportunities for improvement

  • Coordination, oversight and implementation of employee off-boarding

  • Work with content experts to provide coordination, oversight, and implementation/delivery of training to support:

New employee orientation and training

New pharmacy programs and services

Updates and support of existing pharmacy programs and services

CAPA implementation for quality related events

  • Conduct audits of staff practices to identify potential needs for education, coaching, and re-training

  • Assessment of pharmacy roles needs for knowledge, skill, and abilities, and developing appropriate training, to address highest needs.

  • Provide feedback on each training candidate their respective supervisors, to be included in their new or annual evaluation.

  • Serve as a resource for hiring managers to support recruiting and hiring

  • Participating as an active member of internal work groups/committees 

  • Adapts positively to change and helps to lead change process

  • Promotes learning experiences for the team.

  • Leads process improvements and supports implementation of changes

  • Assures productive use of Pharmacy Technician staff time

In addition to training responsibilities, the Pharmacy Trainer will perform all Technician Lead responsibilities in the event that all training needs are completed.

Workflow Management

  • Assign daily workflow assignments based on current productivity, business need and KPI’s

  • Monitor daily productivity and adjust assignments as required

  • Measure outcomes of daily assignments and provide feedback to Supervisors on further employee productivity evaluations.

Customer Service

  • Handle and resolve all front line patient or provider escalations

  • Quickly and efficiently respond to incoming calls and faxes, identify how to best assist

  • Verify HIPAA information and maintain confidentiality when speaking to patients and providers

  • Assess the callers’ needs and address or transfer call to correct department

  • Document calls into the pharmacy processing system, and handle escalated calls per established protocols

  • Efficiently communicate caller’s requested information in a professional manner

  • Respond efficiently and accurately to callers, explaining possible solutions, and ensuring the patient or provider feel supported and valued

  • Engage in active listening with callers, confirming or clarifying information and diffusing upset patients or providers as needed

  • Work closely with pharmacists and pharmacy teams to ensure patient and provider’s needs are being met in a timely fashion

  • Coordinate with call center Hub program(s) as applicable.

Call Center Processing

  • Coordinate the order and enter prescriptions based on their degrees of urgency through the pharmacy processing system

  • Efficiently enter data and information into pharmacy processing system

  • Enter prescription orders into pharmacy processing system in an accurate and efficient manner

  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations and policies

Fulfillment Processing

  • Coordinate the pull, pick and labeling of products

  • Efficiently pull correct products based on drug name and NDC; label products based on manufacturer requirements and any state/federal requirements

  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations and policies

  • Aid in maintaining accurate drug inventory counts through inventory control practices

  • Handle hazardous materials/ products based on USP 800 guidelines

Shipping

  • Package product, patient paperwork and any additional materials efficiently to the manufacturer’s requirements

Comply with applicable laws, regulations and policies

Experience:

Minimum Required:

Ideally have two or more years of healthcare or pharmacy work experience as a trainer.

Experience/knowledge/skill in:

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Able to speak Spanish preferred

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Adaptability and flexibility

  • Efficient typing skills

  • Experience working in fast-paced environment

Education/Qualifications/Certifications and Licenses

The Pharmacy Trainer must hold a Bachelor’s degree or evidence of continual work towards a degree is strongly preferred. The technician must hold a Florida Board of Pharmacy Registered Pharmacy Technician license and be efficient in using email programs, instant messaging communications and in all Microsoft office programs.

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as a pharmacy technician

  • Experience with training others, especially pharmacy technicians

  • Excellent teaching skills

  • Excellent communication skills, including fluency in writing, reading and speaking English

  • Proficient computer skills and literacy, including Windows-based and Microsoft Office-based programs

  • Proficiency in basic mathematic skills relevant to pharmacy technician responsibilities

  • Able to work as a team and collaborate with others and demonstrate diversity awareness

    • Maintain a professional, calm and friendly demeanor.

    • Express thoughts and instructions clearly in both verbal and written communications

    • Efficient in phone skills, including familiarity with complex or multi-line phone systems

    • Ability to be on the phone for extended periods of time

    • Understand and strive to meet or exceed call center metrics within 90 days of hire, while providing excellent consistent customer services

    • Demonstrate customer service skills necessary to support assigned programs

    • Prioritize and organize own work to meet agreed upon deadlines

    • Able to multitask and handle multiple request at the same time

    • Easily navigate between multiple computer programs with dexterity

    • Able to sit, stand, use computer screens for extended periods of time Applies knowledge and skills to activities that vary from day to day

    • Demonstrates a moderate level of knowledge and skills in own function

    • Requires little assistance with standard and non-standard requests
