Position Title: Senior Engineer Operations Systems
Position Location: 2985 Ames Crossing Road, Eagan, MN 55121.
Job Description: Provide engineering support and leadership to company's control room and support functions within System Operations. Support and develop Day Ahead and Real-Time Energy (DART) market systems as well as the Ancillary Services Market. Support DART project initiatives related to enhancing and improving these applications. Support new products and services by collaborating with other teams and test as necessary. Review or analyze anticipated and historical system conditions with various tools to develop responses to system conditions. Provide technical support for System Operations to ensure applications are functional and efficient. Develop enhancements, tests, and fixes to resolve Day Ahead and Real-time Market problems and collaborating with others within the company to implement solutions. Conduct testing of software changes to DART applications, ensuring these applications produce consistent and credible results. Collaborate on system design and new products and services with Information Technology, System Operations, and vendor teams, as needed. Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to Engineers I, II, III on company's policies, procedures, and processes. Assist with complex technical projects requiring coordination across multiple departments and divisions. Assist management in the preparation of project budget requirements ensuring effective and efficient use of resources. Apply advanced power system engineering techniques to generate and analyze options and make recommendations while considering operational risks and how the solution(s) may change or impact the organization. Make timely recommendations to effectively solve technical engineering problems, using independent judgment consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations, and/or law. Provide technical engineering solutions and support to enhance, automate, maintain, and troubleshoot departmental processes, tools, and applications. Examine highly complex and unpredictable technical data from multiple sources crossing departmental boundaries. Support and serve on internal and external industry and company committees, task forces, and working groups. Facilitate communications among stakeholders, including interactions with MISO transmission owners, market participants, neighboring RTOs, and first tier companies. Professionally exercise discretion and independent judgment in day-to-day work. Compliance with all processes, procedures, and standards applicable to the position including (but not limited to): SOC 1 (Service Organization Controls 1), CIP (Critical Infrastructure Protection), Change Management, Tariff (Open Access Transmission, Energy and Operating Reserve Markets Tariff), FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation), U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and NAESB (North American Energy Standards Board). Telecommuting: Hybrid 2 days/week.
Requirements: This position requires a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in electrical engineering or related field, plus Four years of power system engineering experience. Additionally, the applicant must have experience with 1) Technically supporting energy market operations and leveraging power engineering techniques to solve operational issues; 2) Utilizing security-constrained unit commitment and economic dispatch technology; 3) Troubleshooting, support, and testing of energy market management software; 4) Analyzing complex data, algorithm validation, understanding of complex outcomes and root cause examination and analysis; 5) Utilizing programming skills including, Perl, Python, or Java to create and automated processes and automated software testing
