Job Description

We are currently hiring a Quality Assurance Manager in Boston, MA. This position sits at our Germania Street location.

The Quality Manager is responsible for leading Brewery Quality, Food Safety, and Regulatory programs and processes at our Brewery. The position holds a key role on the Brewery Leadership Team and must be skilled at identifying opportunities, using data to drive decisions, cross-functional influence, and collaboration. This includes development, maintenance, and improvement of the Food Safety Program and Quality Systems, including pre-requisite programs, sanitation, GMP's, HACCP, allergen control, QC Programs, traceability, non-conformance management, auditing, recall, analytical and microbiology lab management, etc. The ideal candidate will be outgoing, flexible, results-oriented, and passionately develop people and processes.

What You'll Brew:

  • Ensure the Brewery operates within compliance for all local, federal, and industry regulations, including FDA and TTB
  • Lead the internal GMP audit program and facilitate external audits.
  • Monitor Food Safety and Quality performance and develop improvement strategies
  • Provide quality leadership and support for Brewing, Blending, and Packaging Operation
  • Present pertinent data to key department stakeholders to drive alignment and action
  • Develop SOP's and guide training to improve efficiency and reduce the risk of quality failures.
  • Establish departmental goals, policies, and procedures in alignment with BBC policies
  • Ensure QA and QC Procedures are properly understood, carried out, and evaluated.
  • Responsible for ensuring maintenance, calibration, and control charting of all lab equipment
  • Manage Kosher program for the Company.
  • Support the transition process for new products (beer and blend) to production facilities.
  • Manage Brewery Pest Control Program
  • Support trial work for Beer and Blend products
  • Remain current with industry standards, new and evolving procedures, and instrumentation.
  • Active participant in daily taste panel
  • There is frequent exposure production environments:
    • Subject to loud and constant noise
    • Non-environmentally conditioned spaces which may lead to extreme hot and cold
  • Operating environment is complex and densely populated with production equipment and forklifts that necessitates high situational awareness

What Ingredients You'll Bring:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Fermentation, etc.
  • 6+ years of Quality experience
  • 2+ years of experience in a managerial role
  • HACCP Certified (or willing to become certified within 6 months of hire)
  • Experience with statistical evaluation of production data, control charts, etc.
  • Knowledge of quality management, total quality concepts, statistical analysis, and process control
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience managing microbiology laboratories
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, sometimes repeatedly
  • Responsibilities may require crouching, stepping over, crawling under, bending, twisting, climbing, and reaching above head and shoulders repeatedly throughout the day
  • Ability to wear assigned PPE (safety shoes, gloves, facemask, hearing protection and hard hat)
  • Established dexterity so you can handle materials, operate equipment and interface with computer systems with precision

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Food Safety GMP certified
  • Experience with batching, blending, and fermentation
  • Food Defense Certified
