About this job

Under direct supervision of the Campus Dean, Nursing, coordinates clinical learning lab facilities and services in the nursing program.  Coordinates day to day activities and services of the nursing skills lab, including scheduling, lab set-up, supervision of student use of laboratory supplies and equipment, inventory, requisition, management, and maintenance of lab equipment and supplies, and related duties.  Provides continuous and ongoing feedback to faculty and staff regarding the laboratory‘s use and inventory of laboratory materials. Acts as a liaison with the administration, faculty, and students in providing skills lab services to fulfill the needs of the nursing curriculum. Ensures policies, and procedures for the Nursing Skills Labs are administered as determined by the Campus Dean, Nursing.


Essential functions and Responsibilities:



  • Provides assistance to students in the skills labs.  Assists faculty on procedures related to access and use of equipment and supplies in the skills labs.    

  • Assists faculty with life support training in the following: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support). 

  • Prepares medium-fidelity simulators with moulage, realistic wounds, and other preparation per faculty requirements.  Participates in periodic training sessions to increase competence.  Meets with nursing instructors to review assignments, activities, and concerns.

  • Ensures that assigned labs are prepared according to provided schedules.  Provides for neat and orderly maintenance of assigned labs, storerooms, and prep rooms.

  • Provides for proper care, storage, maintenance, and repair of equipment, including stored equipment.  Schedules regular maintenance for equipment; fills out and follows through on maintenance requests.

  • Provides lab safety/hazardous material handling instruction; ensures appropriate local and state safety standards are met, including proper storage/disposal.

  • Conducts periodic lab safety/sanitation checks, with summary reports to supervisor.

  • Prepares and follows up on requisitions for lab supplies and equipment.  Places orders at the direction of department chairperson or designated instructors.

  • Maintains accurate, current records as needed, including inventory of supplies/equipment. 

  • Acts as a liaison between the University and supply/equipment vendors.

  • Maintains regular and timely attendance, reports to work as scheduled and assures time worked and/or time-off is recorded properly. 

  • Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the University’s Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and states laws, and applicable professional standards.                                                                            

  • Maintains established department policies, procedures and attends in-services and other required meetings.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all student, associate, and/or university information as required.

  • Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.

  • Maintains order, cleanliness and safety at work.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.


Education:



  • High School degree required.

  • AA degree in related field or LVN Diploma preferred.


LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:



  • Basic Life Support Certification required.

  • Basic Life Support Instructor Certification preferred.

  • Patient Care Technologist, Nurse Aide Certification or Licensed Vocation/Practical Nurse license preferred.


Knowledge/Experience:



  • Minimum 2 – 3 year’s prior experience as an healthcare provider with direct patient contact, for example, Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Patient Care Technologist, Certified Nurses Aide, Licensed Vocation/Practical Nurse, Medical Corpsman.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Demonstrated experience with the use of medical instruments, equipment, and supplies.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office.


COMPENSATION: 


Minimum: $22.23/ hour


Maximum: $30.01/ hour
