Position description
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Ketema Paul at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). We are looking for motivated candidates with strong neurobiology and physiology backgrounds who are interested in sleep research. Our lab examines the genetic regulation of sleep and how genetic heterogeneity influences the ability to recover from sleep loss. Our research currently has two foci: 1) determining if disruptions of biological timing result in sleep-wake disorders and if so, which specific genes are involved and 2) determining if sex differences in the risk and severity of sleep abnormalities are chromosomally driven. The lab is currently examining sex difference in sleep and mapping tools to identify novel sleep-regulatory genes.
Our lab has a highly motivated multi-disciplinary team combining electrophysiology and genomics approaches with experimental techniques. Our fundings offer immense and invaluable opportunities for the successful candidates to interact with world-class investigators in neurobiology and physiology.
Successful candidates are expected to have the following qualities: (1) Doctorate degree in neurobiology, physiology, or similar areas of study, (2) experience working with animal models in research, specifically mice, (3) great dataset management and analysis techniques, (4) strong leadership skills and ability to mentor graduate and undergraduate students, (5) excellent written and oral communication skills.
Please apply by March 31st, 2023 by submitting your C.V., cover letter, and 3 references directly to ketema.paul@ucla.edu. The cover letter should describe your research experience to date, any relevant abilities or skills, and your specific interests in joining the lab.
