AOD Therapist/Counselor

The Mental Health Therapist Works under the supervision of the Clinical Director and respective counselor supervisor. The primary job function of the Individual and Family Therapist is to conduct individual, group, and family therapies, coordinating various types of clinical AOD activities. Counselor will be performing various diagnostic and assessment procedures, based on qualifications and abilities. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts daily individual, group and/or family counseling sessions with clients.
  • Performs various Diagnostic and Assessment and Treatment Planning procedures (based on qualifications and abilities), in accordance with ODMH/ODADAS/CARF standards.
  • Coordinates various clinical activities.
  • Assists in monitoring care to ensure conduct is in compliance at all times, with agency policies. Shall make necessary reports to counselor supervisor and/or Clinical Director, when necessary, in regards to any aspect of staff treatment of clients.
  • Attends regularly scheduled executive committee meetings.
  • Attends treatment staffing with prepared report that accurately represents clients response to treatment.
  • Serves on various committees for purposes of Quality Assurance. Maybe asked to serve as Chairperson of select committees, at direction of Leadership and Clinical Director.
  • Conducts in-service training as assigned.
  • Maintains contact with family members/guardians, referral sources, and authorized outside sources, as necessary, in regards to various issues regarding client treatment activities/progress.
  • Maintains documentation relative to caseload and program function.
  • Meets, as directed, with representatives from outside agencies (local Mental Health Boards, potential referral sources, state agencies) for marketing, survey/audit, or informational purposes, as required by position.
  • Adequate knowledge and ability to navigate EHR (Electronic Health Record) system.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by Clinical Director or Counseling Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Counseling, related field, or minimum of two years college credit plus five years of work experience in the field of Addiction or CDCA requirements adequate to perform job duties according to Ohio Law.
  • Required Licensure: CDCA or Higher
  • Experience: Experience working with adolescents, teens and adults with an AOD diagnosis, or AOD work history is preferred.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Interact in a pleasant and professional manner with other employees, physicians, providers, patients, and patients families to promote a team effort through cooperation and respect for fellow employees.
  • Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Organizational skills, writing, speaking clearly, answering telephone, fine dexterity, handling, and gripping.
  • Age-Specific Care Criteria: The employee must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures.
  • Supervision: This position has no supervisory function.
  • Proven competency with MS Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
  • Adaptability in a challenging and dynamic environment; understand and work well in a matrixed organizational structure required.
  • Satisfactory references from employers and/or professional peers and satisfactory criminal background check.
  • Satisfactory drug screen
