Market Development Department
The New Site Development (NSD) team is responsible for completing diligence on new site acquisition opportunities and then progressing those projects through site design, entitlement, permitting and then ultimately handing off to construction in a shovel ready state. The team manages diligence and shovel ready budgets and coordinates across a wide range of contractors and consultants throughout the process. NSD reviews plans and submittals with various AHJ's as they move projects toward a shovel ready state. The team collaborates with Market Development, Sales, Solution Engineering, Design Engineering, Construction, Operations, Finance, Sustainability, Public Policy and Senior Management along the way. Position Overview
The life blood of a data center revolves around power and telecommunications. Vantage seeks a polished Director to lead our Utility Infrastructure team that manages all aspects HV and MV power, gas and telecommunications infrastructure for our future, developing and new data centers in North America. This will range from development of opportunities around HV and MV power in new markets to full development of our data center build outs. The right candidate will successfully manage a team that is responsible for all strategic planning around power, power contracting, capacity planning, utility relations, onsite generation, substation design/engineering, optimize rate structure and tariffs and rebates in an environment rapidly changing power availability while meeting our sustainability goals.
Constant coordination with Market Development, Power Planning, New Site Development, Design, Public Policy, Construction, Operations, Sales, Solutions Engineering, Sustainability, Marketing, subject matter experts and the wider Executive Team (specifically with regards to strategic elements) will be required to keep pace with Vantage's strategic land acquisition goals, including enhancing Vantage's product and service offering wherever possible. Collaboration and integration in the sales lifecycle process as well as existing operational sites, including client interface alongside Solutions Engineering, are all integral to the role.
Essential Job Functions
Develop and implement strategies for power, gas and fiber in new market and expansion in existing markets.
Develop and implement procedures around management of existing data center contracting, capacity planning, optimization of rates and tariffs, rebates, billing,
Lead and manage all aspects to obtain initial capacity, quotes, design, engineering, scheduling, and connection agreements (contract) for new MV and HV utility projects, from feasibility through to delivery with construction.
Stay abreast of new technologies and opportunities to innovate using concepts from within and outside of the data center industry including onsite generation and renewable energy.
Duties
Lead process in obtaining and securing power, gas and fiber for new and existing data center markets
Collaborate with market development, site selection and new site development for new opportunities around power as either utility, on site generation, renewables or a combination thereof
Drive scope, schedule, and budget decisions to conclusion including managing internal and external resources, project teams, contractors, and vendors relating to power, gas and fiber
Technical support for sales, construction, new site development and operations. Wherever needed prepare technical material for presentation to prospective customers (RFPs) and marking support.
Executive reporting of power, gas and fiber infrastructure and forecasts
Keep abreast of new technologies, products, and opportunities to innovate using concepts from within and outside of the data center industry to gain an edge on future deliveries
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, preferably electrical engineering, required
10 year minimum career experience, 15+ preferred; data center experience a plus
In-depth knowledge of datacenter infrastructure and design is highly preferred; complex commercial development experience is required
Occasional extended work hours required with ability and willingness to respond to emails after hours in the event of an emergency
Strong quantitative skills to create budgets and establish project cost controls
Ability to use independent judgement and decision-making to positively impact project schedule
Excellent presentation and communication skills to interface with executive management, internal stakeholders, external resources, and customers
Travel to Vantage's new and existing markets as required to perform above duties
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills at all levels of the organization and with other stakeholders and third parties such as suppliers
Demonstrated ability to lead external teams with excellent relationship building skills, and ability to work in a collaborative manner
Provide a high-level of commitment to customer service with co-workers and stakeholders
Flexible, adaptable, and self-directed; able to work in a variety of circumstances, e.g.: remotely, while travelling, across multiple time zones, cross functionally, by project, etc.
This position requires an organized individual with the capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure, and to prioritize work effort, all with minimal supervision
Proficiency in MS Office (particularly Excel, Word, Project, Power Point), Google Docs, and Blue Beam.
Additional Details
Salary Range: $175,000 - $215,000 Base + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)
