The Associate Director (AD), Alzheimer's disease MSLs is responsible for the leadership, direction and management of the MSLs within their region. This includes providing overall guidance and direction to the MSLs to gain an understanding of the scientific landscape from KOLs/HCPs and communicate the information to key internal stakeholders across the AD/dementia portfolio of products. The Associate Director MSLs works closely with the Sr. Director MSLs to provide intelligence for medical brand strategies, to implement strategic and tactical plans based on those strategies and to provide overall support of medical brand strategies and clinical studies across the portfolio. In addition to the above leadership responsibilities, the AD will, be responsible for coaching and developing MSLs in their region. The MSLs of that region will directly report into the AD and the AD.

Essential Functions

- Ensure operational excellence of the MSL team, including corporate aligned objective/tactics, cross-functional medical support, interaction with opinion leaders and facilitating clinical research to meet strategic development needs.

- Provide leadership for the MSL function by participating on cross functional teams leading to strategic planning and working collaboratively with Commercial Operations including, Sales, Marketing and Medical & Scientific Affairs.

- Develop individual talent within the MSL team, including training, career evaluation, coaching, mentoring, performance management and talent review. Includes recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new MSLs.

- Manage MSL activities related to presenting medical and scientific information and to external customers, including but not limited to, medical thought leaders, academic institutions and managed care.

- Work with key professionals at the national, regional, and local level, supporting the education of key healthcare professionals with current, fair-balanced medical, scientific and HEOR information regarding Eisai's products/pipeline and therapeutic areas.

- Increase the awareness of Eisai data allowing the key healthcare professionals to make informed therapeutic decisions.

- Work with investigators in a defined territory to facilitate the process for clinical trials.

- Maintain and demonstrate thorough and up-to-date knowledge of disease state, study methodology, clinical information, and product data Ensure compliance with regulatory and other ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry, and to ensure compliance with Eisai policies & procedures and standard operating procedures.

- Travel (up to approx. 50%), locally across the US when required and including international travel. Drive company leased vehicle to meetings with health care providers and other appropriate stakeholders and partners.

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific terminal degree (PhD, PharmD, MD/DO)
  • 8+ years industry or related experience, with at least 3 yrs experience in neurology.
  • Must have 3 years of experience within the pharmaceutical industry overseeing a Medical Science Liaison team or related function.
  • Prior drug launch experience as a MSL manager, is strongly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills required.
  • A team player who is strategic and excels in a matrix environment.
  • Experience hiring, training, and successfully onboarding MSLs

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to work remotely and maintain morale of field based personnel that report into you, as well as good interaction with office based Medical Affairs and scientific staff.
  • Strong personal integrity and ethics.
  • Should have a proven track record of exceeding expectations with qualitative and quantitative metrics and driving MSL performance.
  • Successful collaboration with cross-functional colleagues, successfully leading in high profile situations
  • Strong broad-based scientific and pharmaceutical knowledge
  • Must possess a thorough understanding of the FDA, OIG, HIPPA, PhRMA, GCP and other international regulatory/ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry & clinical trial conduct, and to ensure compliance with these external as well as internal Eisai guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • Must be able to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment
  • Ability to interface effectively with a variety of technical platforms for the collection/development of field reports, slide content, strategy/review, and dissemination of medical information
  • Sound computer skills including applications for word processing, producing slide materials, working with spreadsheets, and other pharma platforms
  • Ability to safely and successfully operate a motor vehicle is required.
  • Possesses and maintains a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • This is a field-based position. The employee is required to set up a home-based office within their defined territory.

Eisai Salary Transparency Language:

The base salary range for the Associate Director, Medical Science Liaisons, US Neurology Medical Affairs (Alzheimer's Disease) is from :176,600-231,700Under current guidelines, this position is eligible to participate in : Eisai Inc. Annual Incentive Plan & Eisai Inc. Long Term Incentive Plan.

Final pay determinations will depend on various factors including but not limited to experience level, education, knowledge, and skills.
