About the Mission You Will Join:

As a Subject Matter Expert Operational Technologist supporting the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative (JCDC) - Thought Leadership, you will be a driving force in shaping the discourse around OT, cybersecurity, and the integration of OT and IT. Your expertise in OT systems, emerging technologies, and industry trends will be instrumental in developing and disseminating thought-provoking content that showcases VMD's expertise and thought leadership in the domain. You will play a crucial role in elevating our brand presence, establishing our organization as a thought leader, and fostering valuable relationships within the industry.

Your Impact to the Mission:

Thought Leadership & Strategy:

  • Develop and execute a thought leadership strategy that aligns with the JCDC's vision and business goals. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in OT and IT convergence. Create compelling and informative thought leadership content, including whitepapers, research reports, articles, blog posts, and opinion pieces around governance and strategy. Translate complex technical concepts into easily digestible and engaging content for diverse audiences. Stay abreast of the latest developments, innovations, and disruptions in the OT industry, cybersecurity landscape, and related technology domains such as red teaming, and zero trust.
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis to provide insights that drive the thought leadership agenda. Represent VMD at industry conferences, webinars, and events as a thought leader and subject matter expert.
  • Deliver impactful presentations and participate in panel discussions to share industry insights. Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, industry influencers, and partners to foster collaboration and thought exchange.
  • Engage with clients and the broader community to gain insights and understand their challenges and needs.
  • Elevate, VMD's brand reputation through thought leadership initiatives and contributions to industry publications and forums. Engage in media opportunities to promote VMD's thought leadership initiatives.

OT System Design and Implementation:

  • Collaborate with engineering and architecture teams to design and implement secure and efficient OT systems, considering the unique requirements of industrial control systems and critical infrastructure. Provide technical guidance for integrating OT solutions with existing IT infrastructure and applications.
  • Conduct assessments to identify opportunities for optimizing OT systems and processes. Conduct thorough risk assessments of OT environments to identify vulnerabilities and potential threats.
  • Develop and implement robust cybersecurity strategies and controls to safeguard OT systems from cyber-attacks and unauthorized access. Stay up to date with emerging cybersecurity trends, threats, and best practices to proactively address security challenges.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements, such as NIST 800-82, IEC 62443, and other relevant frameworks.
  • Collaborate with compliance and legal teams to ensure OT systems are compliant with industry-specific regulations and contractual obligations.
  • Provide expert-level support in incident response and troubleshooting for OT systems to minimize downtime and operational disruptions. Analyze and investigate security incidents related to OT infrastructure and recommend remediation actions.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance the organization's understanding of OT concepts, security practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Act as an internal subject matter expert, providing insights and guidance on OT-related matters to different teams within the organization.
  • Develop incident response plans for OT systems to enable clients to respond effectively to cyber incidents and minimize operational disruptions. Conduct tabletop exercises and simulations to test the effectiveness of the incident response plans. Prepare detailed assessment reports, technical documentation, and executive summaries, providing clear insights into OT security issues and remediation recommendations. Present findings to clients, explaining complex technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.

Experience Needed to Be Successful:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related fields. Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
  • Proven experience (7+ years) as an OT Subject Matter Expert or a similar role in the industrial sector.
  • Proven track record of thought leadership in the OT domain, demonstrated through published articles, whitepapers, or speaking engagements.
  • Strong understanding of Operational Technology (OT) systems, industrial control systems, including SCADA, PLC, DCS, cybersecurity, and related protocols.
  • In-depth knowledge of OT cybersecurity principles, practices, and industry standards.
  • Experience with risk assessments, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing of OT environments.
  • Familiarity with relevant compliance frameworks, such as NIST, IEC 62443, ISO 27001, etc.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Strong analytical and research capabilities to identify industry trends and opportunities for thought leadership.
  • Strategic mindset and the ability to align thought leadership initiatives with business objectives.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented approach to work, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in OT technology and security.
