General Information
James Madison University's Office of Marketing and Branding is accepting applications for a Creative Producer to join the Enrollment Marketing team. This position reports to the Manager of Photography and Video Production. Our team is looking for candidates with strong photography and graphic design skills. An online digital portfolio is required for consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Serve as a photographer on the photo/video team, capturing creative content for university stories, marketing materials, social media and campus events.
  • Provide strategic input and artistic direction for photography in University Marketing and Branding. Assist in building creative brand strategy for photographic style and design.
  • Coordinate, produce and deliver creative content that is consistent with the JMU brand, aligned with university goals and targeted to inspire constituents to more deeply engage and invest in the university.
  • Work with the Enrollment Marketing Art Director to design print and digital materials (including brochures, booklets, mailers, invitations, web graphics, social media and ads) for student recruitment.
  • Prepare files for final print production and troubleshoot where necessary. Archive all assets in the design archive library.
  • Work with Enrollment Marketing partners (i.e. undergraduate and graduate admissions offices) to determine focus and direction of design materials; participate in team meetings with partners.
  • Aid with photo asset collection and assignments, providing artistic input and creative consultation.
  • Apply photojournalistic experience to UMB content to achieve strategic communication goals, ensuring that the capture, editing and presentation of still images tells the story of James Madison University.
  • Help to maintain and update the photography digital asset management environment, focused on user access and retrieval. Assign relevant keywords and tags to image metadata, and write titles and descriptions.
  • Coordinate the use of photography equipment, digital tools and other production resources.
  • Assist in the hiring and oversight of photography student interns/assistants and photography freelancers.
  • Respond to photography and graphic design assignments in a prompt, professional manner.
  • Strategically manage workflow and communicate project status to team members and partners. Utilize Basecamp and/or Slack to organize, create project schedules, and log important actions.
  • Provide minor general support for onsite audio/video recordings for priority initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Photography and Video Production Manager, Art Director, and Director of Enrollment Marketing.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • A digital native who consumes, and can create, content for a variety of platforms.
  • A skilled storyteller with a passion for creating compelling content for digital and print channels.
  • Strong photography skills.
  • Strong graphic design skills, with print as a primary focus.
  • Demonstrated experience with Adobe Creative Suite software - including Lightroom, Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
  • Proficient time management, calendaring and prioritization skills.
  • Availability on entire weekdays, and, for photography, some evenings and weekends as events/requests dictate.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Dependability, consistency and a willingness to take risks and learn new things.
  • A team player who gets along well with others and respects the departmental reporting structure.

Preferred:
  • Experience supervising and mentoring student interns.
  • Experience in higher education or other non-profit organizations.
  • Experience working with print vendors on cost estimates and specifications
