As an Engineered Wood Products (EWP) Tech II, you will focus on producing customized drawings using design software to work with our customers on their design concepts. An ideal candidate is interested in producing high quality, detailed work based on established standards, guidelines and procedures. Precise, consistent work output is essential and requires the patience to handle and complete one task at a time. This position is designed to develop a valued technical expert, who can deliver quality work consistently with a focus on supporting our sales & management team in a stable work environment.

Engineered Wood Products (EWP) Tech II Responsibilities:

  • Work with customers and co-workers to build solid relationships based on trust and competence
  • Optimize and generate clear, complete, and accurate detailed layout drawings based on architectural and engineering plans for the fabrication of roof/floor systems and components
  • Prepare schematic diagrams and detailed shop drawings while conforming to project plans
  • Review and optimize designs for most efficient use of resources
  • Investigate preliminary information and data necessary to generate designs
  • Utilize knowledge of multiple design software platforms, including CAD, MiTek, BCFramer, CS EWP Studio, Javelin, iStruct, Agility and common engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings
  • Interact with building designers about feasibility, possibilities, and problems that may preclude the completion of a truss package that adequately conveys the architect's design
  • Interact with the sales department regarding the scope of work and to acquire and disseminate information needed to provide quality truss design drawings that are within bid parameters
  • Provide backup assistance to builders by answering general questions and reconciling any problems in the condition of the delivered product
  • Train EWP technical specialists: maintain development programs and schedules for training
  • Produce consistent, error free work based on defined regulations and standards
  • Use a steady, methodical work style to complete estimation projects, on time and error-free

Job Requirements

  • 5 years of computer design experience with design related to engineered wood floor and roof systems
  • Willing to jump in and roll up your sleeves to help out when necessary
  • Able and interested in communicating with others based on job knowledge & expertise
  • Work at a steady, even pace to promote accuracy & quality of work through repetitive routines
  • Lead by example, with first-hand knowledge of area of expertise
  • Open, flowing communication is important
  • Follow established guidelines, structure, and policies, while working with and for others
