Job Description
Summary of Duties:
Under supervision, assists in the direct day, evening and/or night care of individuals in accordance with the policies and procedures. Supports individuals in maintenance of financial, medical and household responsibilities. Implements and monitors behavior management, individual service and program plans. Supports individuals with challenging behaviors.
Reporting Relationships:
The Enhanced Direct Support Professional (EDSP) receives administrative and program supervision from the Enhanced Residence Manager, Enhanced Assistant Residence Manager or designee. Works cooperatively with all program staff. Receives instruction for plan implementation from the Behavior Specialist.
Essential Job Duties:
1. Implements behavior support plans. Utilizes behavioral principles in day-to-day interactions.
2. Provides supervision to ensure the health, safety & behavioral needs of the people supported.
3. Addresses behavior management safety needs related to the complex diagnoses of individuals
4. Specialized attention to the emotional & social needs & supports of individuals
5. Daily teaching & reinforcement of BSP and appropriate interactions with others
6. Participates in household chores and minor maintenance needs of the program site.
7. Contributes to the development, implementation and monitoring of the oversight and guidance schedule for assigned individuals.
8. Supervises and monitors medication as assigned. As necessary, records and dispenses medication, supports ability to self-administer medications.
9. Supports individuals in attaining proper medical care.
10. Transports individuals as needed to medical appointments, recreation, shopping, banking and work setting, etc. as assigned.
11. Assists and supervises budgeting and financial transactions of individuals.
12. Responsible for providing supports, supervision, assistance or skill acquisition as outlined in the individual’s service plans. These areas may include, but not limited to personal hygiene, housekeeping, shopping, and activities/events within the community both vocational and skill-based activities.
13. Maintains required records for individuals.
14. Responsible for displaying sound, ethical judgment and supportive decision making as outlined in the DSP Code of Ethics
15. Completes behavior documentation and incident reports including management notification, as required.
16. In addition to SCIP, Med & CPR certification, participates in mandatory in-service training specializing in positive approaches, calming techniques, diagnoses-specific training. May also be required to complete enhanced training from the College of Direct Support or similar institution.
17. Participates in staff meetings to become familiar with individual needs, service objective and method of assisting individuals to achieve objectives.
18. Completes individual assessments as assigned.
19. Assists with compliance of all pertinent regulations, policies and applicable laws.
20. Other duties as assigned.
Extraordinary Work Conditions:
Required to work varied hours and weekends according to program need and individual’s schedule. Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License with driving record that is acceptable within Agency’s criteria. Must be willing to transport individuals as needed.
Qualifications:
High School or GED preferred. Experience with developmentally disabled adults preferred. Medication Administration Training, C.P.R., First Aid and SCIP-R certification are required upon hire.
