This position provides direct nursing services such as pregnancy testing and counseling, public health assessments, international travel vaccinations, newcomer services, sexually transmitted disease testing and treatment, HIV testing and counseling, tuberculosis screening, testing and treatment, and adult and childhood immunization services to individual, families, and targeted at-risk populations in the clinic setting. Also provides appropriate education and resources based on the assessments along with utilizing a variety of nursing skills to meet identified needs of clients in the clinic setting. In consultation with the Clinic Nurse Manager, provides supervision, guidance, and direction to staff in the provision of public health services to the community. As the assistant nurse manager, oversees day to day clinic operations in accordance with health department guidelines.
Health department positions are designated as emergency first responder. Based on the emergency response deployment needs, this position may be deployed to support the emergency response service needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in nursing; plus three years of post-licensure experience as a nurse in an equivalent health care setting whose focus was primarily prevention services and community education, including two years in a public health/community health setting; plus at least one year experience in a public health/community health specialty area or supervisory responsibilities.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
Driver's License;
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation - CPR (Required within 60 days);
AED (Required within 60 days).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two or more years of experience working in a public health clinic or community health setting.
  • Two years of experience supervising professional and/or paraprofessional staff in a clinic setting
  • Knowledge and experience in community engagement work in health promotion, prevention, or education in the clinic setting.
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and professionalism in dealing with clients and colleagues.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities to communicate effectively and clearly with a diverse population
  • Ability to reach out and maintain positive community relationships.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative connections with internal and external partners.
  • Ability to work independently, and in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications
  • Work well with multi-disciplinary team members and community partners.
  • Phlebotomy experience.


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background investigation, a Child Protective Services (CPS) check, a driving record check, and a sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. Tuberculosis test.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
