Whether you are a freshman entering college, a senior like myself or somewhere in between, starting off the school year right is crucial. It sets you up for success and makes for a smoother ride throughout the year. These tips will start you off on the right path. Class is in session!
Class Prep 101
At the very least, come to class with a notebook and a pen to take notes. You never know what the professor will have you doing. Heck, I've even had teachers give a quiz on the second day of class!
Intro to Seat Choosing
Picking your seat matters more than you know. You may have heard this before and it probably sounds a little silly, but it's super important. Do not, I repeat, do not choose a seat in the very back of the classroom. First, you might not be able to see the professor's notes or slideshows. Second, professors want to know you will be engaged and participate. Some even take that into account when your grade is on the fence between two different letter grades. If you're too cool for the very front, just find a nice middle seat.
I guarantee you the school year will get a little chaotic sometimes so it's key to start off the right way. Print off your class schedule and their locations so that you aren't looking for that information at the very last minute. If you're new to your campus, go around a day or two before classes start to see where they are located so you don't run the risk of showing up late. My planner/agenda is my life so I definitely recommend getting one. Keeping track of meetings, exams, homework, etc. can be overwhelming and hard to remember.
Intro to Involvement
College can easily make you feel tiny in the masses of people. Look into joining clubs and organizations that relate to your interests or major. It can help you make friends, get your voice heard on campus, and even be added to your resume. Also, don't be afraid to attend events that are open to students because that is a great time to meet other people on campus.
Following these tips will help you start the school year off with a bang!
