Are you a mom looking for a job? Being a parent and having a job can be a difficult balance. Finding a full-time or part-time job as a mom means you’ll really need to look at scheduling, benefits and a work/life balance to see if the job will fit with your lifestyle.

Having a job as a mom is easier if your schedule matches up with your children’s schedule. As a teacher you will have similar breaks and can even carpool. If your children are a little younger, think about looking into day cares. This might even give you the opportunity to get a discount on services. Most teaching positions require experience and advanced degrees/certifications, but many day care facilities won’t require you to have a degree or experience in the field.
Working in a restaurant guarantees different shifts and a way to get out of the house for a few hours to make some extra money. You’ll instantly have cash at the end of each shift from tips, and you can even make this just a weekend gig if you need to be around during the week. Employers should be familiar working with parents and will understand the need for last-minute emergencies and cancelled shifts. Consider getting a bartender certification as well and really make yourself stand out to restaurants.
The flexibility of a retail job may be exactly what you are looking for. Like a server, this is a great position to get out of the house for a few hours and make a little extra money. Whether it’s a local shop or a big chain, a retail job will give you the option of working day, night or weekends to fit your schedule.
4) Turning a hobby into a job
Taking a hobby that you love and making a profit from it is a perfect job for a stay at home mom who wants to make some cash on the side. Are you a DIY-er? Crafter? Renovator? Writer? These are all skills that would translate into a good job for a stay at home mom. Think about starting a blog highlighting all the projects you are taking on around the house or details your adventures in parenting. It might take a little while to gain a following, but a blog can be a great outlet for expressing yourself and showing off all your awesome work. Take a look at sites such as Etsy, Fiverr and Task Rabbit. These all have ways where you can really make a name for yourself by taking something you enjoy doing in your spare time and turning it into a way to make money.
You already love children…right? Becoming a nanny uses your familiarity with kids and your skills as a parent and turns it into cash. This is an especially great option if your children are in school - you can work with younger kids who need someone to watch them during the day. Or, if your children are younger, consider starting an at-home day care. You’ll get paid to watch your children, and other kids, while flexing your awesome parenting skills at the same time.
Freelancing covers a very wide range of jobs. This could be anything from writing, designing, secretarial duties, call center, data entry, etc. Basically this is a contract with a company for work you will perform during a certain period of time. Chances are, you have some type of experience or skill that can easily be translated into freelance work. There are many websites that offer freelance only jobs, but also check with local resources to see who needs a short-term employee. Keep in mind that one job can create references for another job and soon that could snowball to different companies in your field.
Stay in shape while earning a paycheck. Fitness instructors work flexible schedules (not to mention the discount you can get on gym memberships). You can teach as little as one class a week depending on your preferences. Or, consider becoming specialized and certified in a certain field like yoga or Pilates. There’s even the option of teaching private classes as well as group classes to supplement your income.
8) Start your own business
There are many companies out there that allow you to start your own side business and many of these can be very profitable. Avon, for example, lets you work from home selling makeup and skincare products. These types of jobs are perfect for the stay at home mom. If fashion is more your thing, look into Stella & Dot or Thirty-One Gifts. If you’re more a chef, think about starting your own Pampered Chef site. With so many different companies getting into this type of business model, there’s a good chance you can find something you’re passionate about and turn it into your very own shop.
