When’s the last time you tried something new? How about in your job search? Most job seekers think basic is better, but that’s far from the truth. Personality and thinking outside the box can turn looking for a job into getting hired. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there!
A Snagajob member, Cat, put her own spin on our advice for following up over the phone and it paid off big time. Check out her insider tip:
“When I apply online for a job, I usually call the employer just to introduce myself and tell them I just filled out an application. Then I ask, “When would be a good time to call back to discuss the position?” They usually say it will take a few days to hit their system, write down my name and give me a convenient day to call back. I find making that initial contact is great! I actually have an interview today because I called yesterday to check up on my application and was informed they wanted to interview me anyway. Score. I got my interview. :)”
Great job search advice, Cat! Don’t fall into the trap of thinking it’s annoying to follow up on job applications. In fact, 80 percent of employers think an applicant that follows up is impressive. It’s a super easy way to make a great first impression. You’ll show the employer your enthusiasm and that you’re willing to go the extra mile.
