We often hear from job seekers who are a little reluctant to apply to jobs because they have no experience. Whether you're making a career change or looking for your first job, it's important to remember that experience isn't everything.
Snagajob member LeeAnna is a perfect example of how you don't need experience to land the job you want. She was recently hired as a front of house manager at Pizza Ranch without any prior management experience.
"I have never really had a job outside of the military, but they saw potential in me and I’m determined to do my best."
Based on LeeAnna's military experience ,she had skills that she could apply to the workforce. Whether you realize it or not, you also have life skills that you can apply to a new job. You've probably gained knowledge through internships, volunteering opportunities or odd jobs like mowing the lawn for a neighbor or babysitting.
When going into a job interview, remember to highlight the skills that you already have and show off your personality. Employers have told us that sometimes they like inexperienced employees because it’s easy to train people who are new and don’t have any bad working habits.
So, don't let your inexperience in the workplace get in the way of you finding the right job. This is your opportunity to show your eagerness, learn and let your personality shine. Remember to come prepared, stay positive and take chances.
Take LeeAnna's advice and go for it!
"If you have never had a managing position and you think you can do it, do not be afraid to go for it. You don’t always have to start from the bottom … I didn’t."
