A recent MSNBC article says that clothing stores, manufacturing and fast food employers are continuing to look for seasonal help. If you’ve started to think that a summer job isn’t in the cards this year, think again! Places, like Sonic Drive-In, have been vocal in their need for summer employees. Could this be you?
I recently talked to Snagajob member Billy who was hired at Sonic for the summer. His advice to those looking for summer employment – follow up on your applications!
“I called the very next week and asked Sonic if they have received my application, and the manager said he would love to interview me the next week. After the interview I was hired!”
So, what can you do if you are still looking for a summer job?
1) Make sure your applications are error free! Avoid the number one mistake job seekers make, and submit an application that would make your English teacher proud! We’ve recently created a video with a few tips on how you can get your application in top shape. Check it out here.
2) Keep applying – In a competitive market, there may be a lot of people applying for the same job that you are interested in. The more applications your put in, the higher number of employers that will see your credentials. Also, never stop applying until you have the job. Even if you are super excited about a particular position, it is better to be safe than sorry. You never know what opportunity could be passing you by!
3) Use your connections – If you have friends that have been hired for summer positions, ask them if their company is still hiring. Check with family members, and ask them if they know of any potential employers. Be sure to let everyone know you are looking for employment, they will keep an eye out for you!
