Our latest survey shows that hourly, seasonal hiring levels are expected to increase 26 percent from last year. That’s great news for job seekers in search of temporary seasonal jobs.
A Summary of What We Found:
- Half of hourly hiring managers with responsibility to hire seasonal workers will say "you're hired" to temporary workers, up 3 points from last year and 7 points from 2008.
- Each hiring manager, on average, expects to hire 3.9 seasonal workers (including those who do not intend to make any hires) - a 26 percent increase over last year's 3.1 workers and stronger than 2008 levels (3.7).
- Among those who are planning to make any seasonal hires this year, 47 percent will start their hiring by September, up 11 points from last year and 8 points from 2008.
To get ahead of that tough competition, it's wise to bring your positive attitude. For three years running, hiring managers have said the best attribute a seasonal applicant can possess is a good attitude, cited No. 1 by 32 percent of this year's hiring managers. Next, hiring managers are looking for previous experience in the industry (26%), the ability to work a specific shift (25%), a commitment for the entire holiday season (10%) and a passion for the company/products (7%).
Companies Hiring Seasonal Workers
From Store Associates to Freight Associates and many hourly positions in between, Kohls anticipates hiring more than 40,000 holiday workers this season. That’s about 35 workers per store – more than last year.
Retail Sales Associates, Counter Managers, Beauty Advisers and more are being hired for the upcoming holiday season. Macy’s has announced plans to hire 65,000 holiday workers this year.
