Congrats on graduating! Pretty exciting stuff.
You’re going to get TONS of advice from everyone you know…even those that haven’t graduated yet. You’ll hear, “Savor every moment, life starts to go by so fast,” “Start saving NOW for retirement,” “Stay in touch with all your friends” and the ever-so popular, “Find a job.”
That’s a pretty vague piece of advice. If only it was as easy as:
One of the first things you need to do after you graduate is to update your resume. You don’t want to make the mistake of sending out applications saying you have an expected graduation date when you’ve already graduated.
If this is your very first job out of school, keep your education at the top of your resume. You’ll want them to see what you’ve been up to since your last job (going to class) and focus on any extracurricular activities that make you look like a well-rounded person.
If you’ve been out of school for a year or so and have experience, you can list your education under experience, as you’ll want employers to focus on everything you’ve learned in your previous job.
