Black Friday has come and gone but the holiday season is just getting in to high gear.
Yes, at this point many employers have their holiday staff in place. But, there are still many seasonal jobs out there that need to be filled.
In fact, when I search “Seasonal Associate” in Snagajob, there are over 22,000 openings!
Bonus! The majority of employers told us that they hope to keep their seasonal employees on staff after the holidays are over. So if you show up on time, do a good job and express interest, there’s a very good chance your part-time job will turn into a permanent position.
How to find a seasonal job
Talk to previous employers
If you’ve had a job before (especially one that you enjoyed) now is a great time to reach back out to see if they need any extra help during the holiday season.
Employers have told us that they do plan on hiring previous employees this season. Think about it. You already know their system, you are familiar with their products and you’re (hopefully) eligible for rehire. Win-win.
Keep an open schedule
I know it’s the holiday season and you might want to spend your nights and weekends hanging out with friends and family. But employers tell us that having a flexible schedule and being able to work for the full season is actually more important to them than having previous work experience.
If you know you can work the entire season and you know you can come in when needed, make sure you mention this to the employer while you’re following up or in a job interview. Chances are this will make you stand out as a rockstar employee.
Show off your personality
Employers tell us that a positive attitude is the number one thing they look for in their seasonal employees. This is especially great news if you’ve never had a job before.
Use this insider knowledge to your advantage. When you go to follow up on an application or show up for your job interview, stay upbeat and happy. Employers want to hire people who will treat their customers with enthusiasm and respect…so make sure you treat the employer the same way.
Prove to them you have the personality they’re looking for to ensure customer happiness.
