Making the most of your summer job

by: Amber Shiflett

Mid adult man lying on a deck chair, using a laptopAs summer really heats up, chances are you're already rocking and rolling at your summer job. That's why we've put together a few tips to help you make the most of your summer gig.

- Give it your all: Show your boss what you're really made of by doing your very best. This proves that they made a smart choice by hiring you and it could possibly open doors to full-time employment opportunities.

- Take initiative: The summer will be over before you know it so it's important that you take advantage of every opportunity at your summer job. If there's a project or specific responsibility that you're interested in, don't be afraid to step up and volunteer.

- Network: Aside from the extra cash, networking is one of the best things about having a job. So take the time to get to know your fellow coworkers. Whether it's a mentor, a potential reference or just a new pal, you never know who you'll meet.

- Leave a good impression: It sounds pretty obvious but it's very important that you leave a good impression when your summer job comes to a close. This way your supervisor will remember you when future opportunities arise. For example, when a new position opens your boss may remember how good of a worker you were in the summertime and give you first consideration for the new job.

By keeping these tips in mind you’re sure to leave your summer job with more experience and opportunities than you had at the start of the summer. Be sure to comment below with any job search questions you may have.
