The 2016 holiday hiring season has begun! While it might not feel like the holiday season quite yet, employers tell us that they want to get their staff in place by the time the season kicks off. So even though the decorations aren’t up, it’s time to start thinking about where you will be working throughout the holiday season.

No surprise here, online shopping is going to be hot, hot, hot this year. Amazon has announced that they will be hiring an additional 120,000 associates for the season! That’s 20 percent more than they hired last year. These jobs will be at their fulfillment centers, solicitation centers and customer service sites.

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft
With the holidays in full swing, Jo-Ann’s needs extra associates to help with the rush of customers looking for assistance in decorating and creating homemade gifts. While we don’t know exactly how many seasonal employees they will be hiring this year, our insiders have told us that not only are all their stores hiring, but there are also a lot of new stores opening. Great potential to stay on full-time after the holidays are over!
This year, Macy’s plans on hiring 82,000 employees for the holiday season. They have even scheduled a National Holiday Hiring Day for September 30. All you need to do is show up at your local Macy’s on that day to apply. And take a look at Macy’s job openings here.

Keeping with tradition, UPS is planning on hiring 95,000 seasonal workers this year. With more and more gifts being bought online, this will be a big year for the shipping and transportation industry. The holiday hires will help handle shipping and deliveries over the course of the holiday season.

Toys R Us
While Toys R Us hasn’t released a national number of holiday hires, they have said that they are accepting applications for part-time seasonal workers. In 2016, they hired around 40,000 workers for the season.

For the fourth consecutive year, Target will be hiring around 70,000 seasonal associates for their stores and warehouses.

In a major uptick from last year’s numbers, JC Penny has announced they will be adding 40,000 employees during the holiday season. This is up from 30,000 in 2015.
Kohl’s has announced they will be hiring 69,000 workers for the holiday season. This is on par with last year and incorporates all of their 1,100 department stores and distribution centers.

Shipping giant FedEx will be hiring more then 50,000 seasonal employees this year. They have also said that many of these open positions could stay on after the holiday season.
