Job Description

Raul V. Bravo + Associates, Inc. (RVB+A), a well-established consultant in the railroad and rail transit industries, currently has an opening for the position listed below.

Rail Vehicle Electrical Engineer - Mid-to-Senior Level
Reston, VA Office

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 10 years of professional experience. Exposure to rail vehicle engineering is a plus. Alternatively, experience in design and maintenance service for aircraft, marine vessels, off-highway vehicles, heavy construction machinery, or equivalent complex computerized electro-mechanical systems is desired.

Candidates must have knowledge of core electrical engineering concepts (analog/digital circuit design, power engineering, networking/telecommunications, AC/DC motor theory, control systems, and software development). Candidates must possess excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills, and work well in a team. PE registration is desirable but not required. Both domestic and foreign travel may be necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage assigned projects and meet/exceed client expectations.
  • Develop and review technical specifications for new, upgraded, and overhauled vehicle equipment and systems.
  • Participate in design review meetings and technical working sessions with equipment suppliers.
  • Review electrical and electro-mechanical designs and prepare detailed descriptions of findings.
  • Review carbuilder proposals for compliance with technical specifications and industry regulations (AAR, APTA, FRA, FTA, etc.).
  • Review train and train systems test procedures for compliance with applicable standards.
  • Further the development of in-house entry-level electrical/mechanical engineers.
  • Hands-on engineering work with the light rail, subway, and commuter trains including investigations of equipment malfunctions.
  • Participate in the new equipment qualification efforts at supplier facilities and on the trains, including: functional testing, electrical performance, environmental, and electromagnetic compatibility.
