Postdoctoral Research Fellow- Physics
The George Mason University Department of Physics and Astronomy, within the College of Science, invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a Postdoctoral Fellow position. Responsibilities: The Center for Computational Fluid Dynamics in the Department of of Physics and Astronomy is seeking a qualified Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a new effort in the field of multi-scale high-yield blast physics. The responsibilities will include: * Development, modification and application of large-scale, production codes to multi-scale high-yield blast physics problems; * Running large-scale problems on super computing platforms; * Interaction with several national teams working on this project; * Attendance of meetings with the aim of briefing other groups and progress and developments; and * Independent compilation of data, results of runs, and writing of progress reports and publications.
Required Qualifications: * Completed a PhD in the field of physics or aerospace engineering prior to the first date of the appointment; * Demonstrated working and authorship (i.e. code-writing) experience with large-scale computational fluid dynamics codes; * Solid knowledge of shock physics; * Knowledge of the FORTRAN and C programming languages; * Knowledge and experience with high performance computing platforms; and * US citizenship required in order to be eligible to access secure data and systems.
Preferred Qualifications: * Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate with a multidisciplinary team; * Experience in managing and reporting on large data sets; and * Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
