McCormick Paints is seeking an Accounts Payable Accountant to work out of the Corporate Office in Rockville, MD.

SUMMARY

Under the supervision and direction of the VP of Finance & Administration, the Accounts Payable Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day management of the accounts payable department and ensuring that AP procedures and tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner. This position will also provide financial, administrative and clerical support to the organization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

• Responsible for full-cycle Accounts Payable processing: 
  • vendor setup
  • data entry
  • posting AP invoices to G/L
  • auditing AP invoices to G/L
  • payment processing
  • journal entries
  • reconciliations
  • file business licenses and personal property returns for branch locations
  • monitoring and communicating progress to appropriate individuals
  • organizing resources to complete tasks in accordance with appropriate policies & procedures consistent with data security regulations and internal controls 
• Meet internal/external deadlines and provide excellent customer service
• Communicate with vendors, banks and staff, as needed
• Ensure proper classification of vendors for 1099 reporting
• Assist and backup the VP of Finance & Administration
• Other duties, as needed

Required Qualifications:

• Degree in accounting, finance or related business field
• A minimum of 3 years of demonstrated Accounts Payable experience
• Prior experience with Great Plains Dynamics software
• Demonstrated understanding of accounting principles, to include bank and ledger account reconciliations
• Attention to detail with strong organizational skills
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Ability to coordinate information flow with multiple sources
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong problem-solving, solution development, and analytical skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to manage and properly prioritize multiple requests and demonstrate appropriate sense of urgency to meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently, as well as be a team player
• Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to be resourceful and take initiative
• Prior experience with SAGE FAS software, preferred
