SCAG is seeking a highly technical Senior Systems Engineer who is skilled in problem solving, troubleshooting, and communication. This position works independently under the general supervision of the Manager of Infrastructure and Operations. The Senior Systems Engineers is responsible for maintaining the design and integrity of SCAGrsquos information systems and will troubleshoot system issues to ensure optimal performance. The Senior Systems Engineer will develop and maintain procedural and process documentation and assist with the development and implementation of departmental policies. Southern California Association of Governmentrsquos Infrastructure and Operations team is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of all internal and cloud managed IT infrastructure used to support business processes, services, and end users across the enterprise. This is achieved by the effective delivery of IT services through the management and orchestration of people, products, providers, contractors, and processes. Primary responsibilities of the team include architecting, planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all compute, storage, network, VoIP, and supporting devices both on premise and in the cloud. The IO team is also responsible for managing and testing the organizations IT services disaster recovery plan and processes, monitoring and securing the infrastructure, and performing capacity planning and projections. OUR LOCATION SCAG headquarters is located in the hub of busy downtown Los Angeles, at Figueroa and 7th streets. SCAG is located at the 900 Wilshire Building, a new, multi-use hotel and office complex that features state of the art architecture and technology. Essential Duties and Responsibilities May include but are not limited to the following Design, build, automate, and implement SCAGrsquos information systems. This includes setup of servers in VMware, configuration of systems to meet SCAG security, disaster recovery, and backup standards, configuration and maintenance of SCAGrsquos ESXi hosts, vCenter, and process automation. Process automation may include the areas of disaster recovery, routine server deployments, user and mailbox creation and termination, and automatic VoIP number and extension assignment. Automation tools may include PowerShell scripting, vRealize Automation (VRA), VMWare Site Recovery Manager (SRM), and Ansible or other automation platforms. Ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of information systems by troubleshooting and resolving system performance and automation issues. Plan, develop, install, configure, maintain, support and optimize all computing, storage, and supporting devices both on premise and in the cloud. Analyze and monitor system utilization and performance to ensure proper operation using SCAGrsquos ConnectWise remote monitoring and management platform. Manage the ConnectWise application ensuring all monitoring is kept up to date and properly configured. Manage and ensure the successful deployment of operating system and application patching on a monthly interval. Provide capacity planning solutions for information systems using manual and automated toolsets to ensure long-term efficient operation of SCAG systems. Develop and maintain procedural and process documentation. Assist in the creation of policies related to the Infrastructure and Operations department. Provide second level support to our customer base and interfaces with vendor support groups to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance. Collaborate with users to determine design specifications or details for system upgrades. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION A bachelorrsquos degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a computer-related field. EXPERIENCE 5 years of professional, hands-on system engineering experience. IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALITIES The ideal candidate 5+ years of experience in PowerShell scripting language 5+ years of experience with Chef, Ansible, or other configuration management tools for infrastructure automation Concrete understanding of OSI and TCPIP models Experience in architecting, managing and implementing converged infrastructure (CI) and hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) Proficient in the design setup and management of VMWare vSphere 6.5 and 6.7 Strong experience in architecting, designing, implementing, documenting and testing complete disaster recovery and failover processes and procedures Experience in the setup and management of Veeam, Windows Server 20162019, PRTG Network Monitor, Symantec Endpoint Protection Suite, Cloudberry, Backblaze, Amazon Web Services EC2 and S3, Microsoft Exchange on premise and online, Office 365, ConnectWise, Skype for Business, and Microsoft Teams Hands-on experience with monitoring, system diagnostic, and system analytics tools Proficient in the creation of detailed system documentation, system infrastructure diagrams, processes and procedures Preferred vendor experience should include SwitchNAP, Amazon (AWS), Dell, and HP support Knowledge of OSI and TCPIP models PowerShell Scripting language configuration management tools such as Chef or Ansible setup and management of Veeam, Windows Server 20162019, PRTG Network Monitor, Symantec Endpoint Protection Suite, Cloudberry, Backblaze, Amazon Web Services EC2 and S3, Microsoft Exchange on premise and online, Office 365, ConnectWise, Skype for Business, and Microsoft Teams IT systems troubleshooting ServiceNow process documentation practices.
