Martin's Herend Imports, Inc. ("Martin's") is the sole importer and wholesale distributor of Herend porcelain and Moser crystal for the entire US market. As a family-owned and operated business since its inception in 1957, the majority of Martin's 30 employees work in its main office conveniently located off of Route 28 in Sterling, VA.
Martin's is seeking a full-time Accounting Manager who will be responsible for all areas of financial reporting. Supervising two employees in A/P and A/R, and reporting directly to the President and Vice President, the incumbent will perform work utilizing Martin's company specific accounting software.
This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This position entails meeting deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, audit preparation and the support and/or reporting of forecast activities, such as cash flow. The Accounting Manager will have contact with multiple departments, retail customers, sales reps, external CPA, and vendors, all of which requires strong interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
Preparation and processing of month end.
Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
Monitors and analyzes department work to maximize efficiency while maintaining a high level of accuracy which emphasizes internal controls.
Responds to inquiries from the President, VP, and external CPA.
Perform monthly bank accounts reconciliations in a timely and accurate manner.
Perform domestic and international wire transfers as needed.
Perform credit card transactions and reconcile credit card activity.
Work with department stores to reconcile charge back fees.
Calling on delinquent accounts; submit to collections, if necessary.
Plan, coordinate, and execute annual financial audit.
Work with external CPA to ensure accurate and timely year-end close.
Assist the external CPA with the compilation of information for the Company's annual tax returns
Advises staff and provides training to new and existing staff as needed.
Handle personnel issues within parameters outlined by Human Resources Department.
Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required.
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and stay organized.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must have good command of the English language, oral and written.
Education and Prior ExperienceBachelor's degree or equivalent of education and work experience.
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience including supervisory responsibilities.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Work with company specific accounting software.

Work at semi-annual warehouse sales
Special projects as required.
