The Office of Human Resources is the primary office at Northern Virginia Community College for assuring oversight and compliance with federal, state, and local laws and college policy in the area of equal employment opportunity (EEO).
The EEO Specialist/ADA Coordinator is an important partner and collaborator with senior leadership, administrators, faculty and staff to advance the college's commitment to non-discrimination and equal access. The EEO Specialist (Investigator) examines complaints of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation based on EEO characteristics in accordance with the college's anti-discrimination policies lodged by employees, faculty and others associated with the college. The Investigator acts as a neutral third party throughout all aspects of the investigation process and ensures a well-documented, prompt, fair, and impartial process. S/he will also conduct and participate in EEO education, training sessions, and advise employees college-wide regarding inclusive and equal opportunity compliant best practices. S/he will assess and make determinations on ADA accommodations for employees, as requested and in consultation with the HR Director.
This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.Duties and Responsibilities:
•Conduct prompt, equitable, and impartial administrative investigations of Equal Employment Opportunity and Americans with Disabilities Act related complaints to determine the applicability of federal, state or local rules, policies or regulation.
•Assess and make determinations on ADA accommodations for employees.
• Develop and facilitate training on EEO and ADA related matters to the campus community.
•Draft investigative reports.
•Monitor EEOC guidance and updates to ensure up-to-date practices are being executed in daily work.
•Generate reports of internal and external complaints, informal and formal to help improve processes.
•Perform other related duties as assigned.
•Bachelor's degree in social science, business, human resources, or related field, or an equivalent combination of applicable experience and/or training.
•Previous experience investigating complaints of discrimination and harassment.
•Experience working with a diverse population.
•Working knowledge of applicable equal employment opportunity state, federal, and local laws.
•A J.D. degree or master's degree in Human Resources or a related field (e.g., counseling, criminology, social work, sociology) is strongly preferred.
•Experience working in higher education.
•Relevant certification in investigation training.
• Demonstrated knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and best practices.
