About Blueprint Schools Network ("Blueprint")
Founded in 2010, Blueprint Schools Network is a national nonprofit organization that promotes educational equity and improves life outcomes for students by partnering with states, districts, and schools to plan, implement, and monitor school improvement initiatives. Blueprint's whole-school improvement approach to rapidly improving student achievement at low-performing public schools is grounded in a framework of five core strategies. These strategies emerged through analyses of the attributes that drive student achievement and represent common elements of schools capable of closing the achievement gap in the lowest performing schools.
One of the strategies that consistently demonstrated the most significant gains in student achievement is providing data-driven, small-group, differentiated instruction. In 2010, we launched our small group differentiated instruction strategy "the Blueprint Math Fellows Program" as a standalone intervention service. Since that time, our Math Fellows have served more than 25,000 students in grades 2-11 at more than 100 schools across the country. District partnerships include the Oakland Unified School District, San Francisco Unified School District, Pittsburg Unified School District (CA), Boston Public Schools, Holyoke Public Schools, Salem Public Schools (MA), Denver Public Schools, Adams County 14 Public Schools (CO), East Saint Louis School District 189 (IL), Saint Louis Public Schools (MO) and YES Prep Public Charter Schools (TX).
Position Summary
Blueprint Math Fellows are full or part-time tutors charged with providing students with highly personalized tutoring in mathematics as part of their regular school day and/or after school. Fellows work with small groups of students, delivering individualized lessons and working closely with teachers to accelerate students' academic achievement. Fellows also work to build strong relationships with students to help increase their self-confidence and commitment to education. The Blueprint Fellows program is an opportunity to participate in a year of service making a difference in the lives of students. Fellows receive a fellowship stipend as well as benefits.
While teachers have classrooms of 25 or 30 students, Fellows manage no more than 6 students at a time. This allows for the individualization of remedial and supplemental instruction in a safe space, where students are encouraged to engage with one another and explain their thinking. Fellows individualize lessons to meet the needs, interests, and passions of their students and deliver data-driven instruction that not only significantly impacts student achievement, but inspires students to be lifelong learners. By using math as the vehicle, Fellows foster critical thinkers, confident communicators, and engaged citizens who question, reflect, self-assess, visualize, respond positively to feedback, persevere, and internalize goal setting as a tool for continuous self-improvement. Fellows receive curriculum materials, pre-service training, on-going mentoring and professional development as well as written evaluation of feedback from their assigned Site Manager. Fellows are charged with focusing on the individual needs of their students, helping to accelerate student achievement and close any skill gaps that may exist.
Fellow responsibilities include: Instruction, Planning, Communication & Feedback, and Compliance. Examples of duties within these categories include:
