Our client is a family-owned and operated steel erector that has been established for over 20 years. What began as a small operation with used equipment has grown to be one of the strongest and most capable steel companies in the area. They are seeking a Safety Manager for a permanent, full time opportunity.
This safety manager will start out overseeing a 7 story STEM Facility at VCU in Richmond, VA. This project will last about 6 weeks. The company is located in Manassas and has projects throughout northern VA.
-Responsible for all time sheets weekly
-Make sure welding truck gets to job site on time
-Weekly Toolbox Talks are signed by all Foreman & turned in to office
-Make sure welders are fueled on all job sites
-Assist with fueling up cranes with fuel as needed
-Make sure employees on site are following all Metro Steel, Inc. HASP rules in place and any safety rules in effect by the GC/ Fabricator
-Able to read drawings, inform GC and / or Fabricator of any problems that arise
-Follow steel erection site plan & be aware of any AHA's on site
-Stock trucks & welding trucks with required tools, equipment & material Stock shop with welding rods & other material when delivered by suppliers
-Assist with breaking down cranes as needed
-Assist with maintenance on trucks, welders, cranes and tools as needed Write up Change Orders, have signed by Superintendent when required and turn into main office in a timely manner
-Make sure job runs smoothly, effectively & efficiently
-Update Project Manager daily on job changes, issues, employee issues, etc.
-Coordinate with all Foreman & PM to make sure all jobs have fuel, tools, ods, ladders, etc. for the next day
Authorities related to Job functions and responsibilities:
-Authority to remove staff from job site for not meeting safety standards.
-Authority to make recommendations to VP/ project manager regarding staff (hiring/firing)
-5 Years' Experience minimum in the Structural Steel Industry
-Familiar with cranes (there is one on site)
-bi-lingual in Spanish
-Osha 30 minimum and any other safety certs is a plus
-willingness to travel
-bachelor's degree in construction related field
