    Postdoctoral Fellowship in Adult Nutrition and Health Research

    The George Mason University, Department of Nutrition and Food Studies, invites applications for a two-year research and teaching postdoctoral fellowship in adult nutrition and health research.     Overview: We are seeking a two-year research and teaching postdoctoral fellowship in adult nutrition and health research. Working with an interdisciplinary faculty team at this Carnegie R1 institution, the Postdoctoral Researcher will be involved in the Mason: Health Starts Here cohort study, a longitudinal study of students at the University. The study offers both existing and to-be-acquired data for analysis, an expert faculty study team that meets frequently, and opportunities for design and implementation of novel pilot intervention research. The team includes faculty in Nutrition, Global and Community Health, Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Statistics, and Health Administration and Policy.

    Under the supervision of Lawrence Cheskin, MD, Professor and Chair of Nutrition, and Alison Cuellar, PhD, Professor of Health Administration and Policy, the fellow will assume mentored responsibility for scientific operations of this funded, ongoing study, lead selected analyses, publish results in research journals, and provide supervision and guidance to students and junior researchers. The fellow will work with faculty mentors to develop a personalized professional development program and design and implement pilot intervention studies.

    Responsibilities: The core experience includes, but is not limited to: * Mentored research: ** Design and implement research protocols; adapt new procedures, methods or instrumentation relative to research procedures, maintain IRB approval; ** Collect, prepare and analyze research data; maintain data for research; use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data for presentation at research conferences and in manuscripts; ** Participate in multidisciplinary research meetings to explore and advance the health of young adult college students; ** Design and implement a pilot intervention study or studies, in conjunction with faculty mentors.

    * Teaching opportunities: ** The fellow will learn the principles of effective teaching and participate in teaching, particularly nutrition topics at the undergraduate and graduate levels using in-person and online formats.

    * Community life: ** The postdoctoral research scholars will be fully engaged with the activities of the research team, the College and the broader Mason research community. Scholars will submit their work and participate in conferences and seminars, both on-campus and at national conferences in their area of interest.

    Required Qualifications: * Recent Ph.D in a health science. MD is also acceptable; * 0 - 2 years of relevant experience in a research environment at the doctoral level; * Demonstrated experience or a strong statement of interest in collaborative research; * Excellent written and verbal communication skills; * Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; * Interest in research coordination and project management.
