    POSITION SPECIFICATION –SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER

    POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

    Under the supervision of the Director -Infrastructure & Creative Operations, the Senior Systems Engineer will be a hands-on member of the Technology Services Infrastructure group.  This group is tasked with the on-going maintenance, development and functionality of The Teaching Company network.  The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for the ongoing enhancement, maintenance and stability of TTC’s creative and video production computing environment

    KEY RELATIONSHIPS

    Reports to:                       Director -Infrastructure & Creative Operations

    Direct Reports:  N/A

    Indirect Reports:             N/A

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    ·       Experience with Juniper products required – Design and implement network of firewalls, load balancers and other network system and

            services.

    ·       Strong understanding of TCP/IP, subnets, routing, firewalls, VPN, DNS (Public Private), Domain Management, HTTPS, FTP, NTP

    ·       Working knowledge of Amazon Web Services

    ·       Working knowledge of Cisco /Meraki switches, routers and wireless systems

    ·       Documents and analyzes software and hardware issues.

    ·       Designs, tests and implements systems solutions.

    ·       Researches software and hardware products and prepares purchase orders.

    ·       Provides support for business-critical systems at the highest level.

    ·       Directs troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common system problems; analyzes system events to ensure continuous functioning.            Recommends course of action and implements as approved by Director.

    ·       Upgrades system software and hardware components as required to meet business needs; verifies backups. Ensures upgrades are 

            occurring in accordance with established parameters.

    ·       Utilizes help desk to record change and problem activities for tracking purposes.

    ·       Working knowledge of Windows 7-10

    ·       Working knowledge of Windows Server

    ·       Working knowledge of AD (active directory)

    ·       Working knowledge of VMware

    ·       Working knowledge of Backup Exec or similar backups

    ·       Experience patching/maintaining systems

    ·       Storage experience – SAN / Synology

    ·       Maintaining both physical and virtual servers

    ·       Manage system infrastructure including, databases, testing computer equipment, malware and other software and hardware.

    ·       Provide technical support for both hardware and software issues that may arise.

    ·       Monitor the system daily and respond quickly to any security breaches or usability concerns.

    ·       Backup systems and verify that backups have been completed.

    ·       Regularly upgrade systems as needed.

    ·       Assist in integrating new applications and technologies into the current system.

    ·       Researches software and hardware products and prepares purchase orders.

    ·       Installation and updates of workstation and peripheral software

    ·       Assist with recovery from application and network outages

    ·       Assist with ensuring workstation security compliance

    ·       Administrative activities to include workstation naming, IP addressing and configuration management.

    ·       Assist with data recovery from failed hard drives and corrupted files.

    ·       Provide support for remote network access and VPN configuration for teleworkers

    ·       Provide support for antivirus and antimalware software.

    ·       Participate in On-Call rotation for after hours and weekend support 

    The ideal candidate for the Systems Engineer position at TTC will have:  

    ·       Self-starter, able to multi-task; good communications skills with end users and team members

    ·       Scripting experience is a plus.

    ·       Strong customer focus

    ·       Strong multi-tasking skills

    ·       Experience with Apple product a plus 

    ·       Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
