    Job Description

    We are seeking a Full-Charge Bookkeeper to join our Accounting department and work as an Assistant to the Controller.

    A successful applicant will have relevant experience as well as leadership and problem solving skills. This job will allow for a broad range of financial experience and responsibilities.

    Responsibilities & Duties

    • Manage Accounts Payable including posting and reconciling vendor accounts as necessary while supervising up to 2 employees charged with the data entry and processing. Provide complete account analysis and transaction research upon request by the Controller and/or Chief Financial Officer.
    • Review and recommend modifications to accounting filing system, both electronically and in paper form. This may include scanning and filing items for archival purposes.
    • Assist Controller as requested - including but not limited to the following:
      • 401K reporting
      • Reconciliation of several bank accounts
      • Month-end close including schedules and analysis where necessary
      • Year-end audit process including preparation of audit schedules, account analysis and providing back-up per auditor requests

     

    Qualifications & Skills

    • 3+ years of experience directly related to the responsibilities outlined above
    • Accuracy and attention to detail
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
    • Ability to function well in a team-oriented environment
    • Advanced MS Excel skills
    • Knowledge and experience with using Quickbooks
    • Knowledge of Sage is a great advantage. We are transitioning to Sage in the next few months
    • Knowledge of FileMaker Pro, while not required, will be a benefit
    • Willingness to learn new software and industry-specific  reporting methods
    • Ability to work from home if necessary.

    We are located in Berkeley in a building built primarily from recycled urban forest and furnished with furniture created from recycled lumber.

    Compensation:

    Salary will start as an hourly rate of $23.00 -$26.00 depending on experience with a review and potential increases at 3 months and 6 months. Health benefits include dental and vision coverage. Working in Berkeley guarantees 9 days PTO to cover vacation and sick days. Additional time is negotiable at one year in lieu of or in addition to a salary raise.

    We are perusing applications now with the intention of setting up virtual and/or telephone interviews in the next couple of weeks. As soon as possible given the limits of ‘shelter in place’ we will want to set up face to face interviews, We will not actually hire until the shelter in place order is lifted – probably sometime in June.
