DURATION APPOINTMENT: Temporary Non-Status Position: 1 year renewable for up to 4 years
This position is located at the Training Performance Management Division (TPM), Foreign Affairs Security Training Center (FASTC), Directorate of Training (T), Diplomatic Security (DS), Department of State (DOS), Blackstone, VA.
The incumbent serves as the senior instructor and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Protective Security Operations Training Unit (PRS) and as such, is the course coordinator for the delivery of specialized security and law enforcement protective security training, education, and orientation.
This position is eligible for situational telework.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides subject matter expertise, leadership, and guidance and serves as senior instructor for specialized tactics, with a particular emphasis on Protective Security Operations (PRS), focusing on the overall training objective which includes planning, developing, coordinating, and conducting all PRS training programs with a wide range of responsibilities.
Plans and schedules the assignment of Subject Matter Expert (SME) instructors including Personal Services Contractors (PSCs) and Third-Party Contractors (TPCs) to courses based on specialized protective security expertise; and provides expert technical guidance in the planning, scheduling, preparation, and presentation of PRS training courses. Ensures instructors review approved curriculum and training materials prior to delivery; and ensures approved curriculum is used in the delivery of training courses.
Conducts classroom lecture, training, and practical exercises to enhance the learning process; and emphasizes realistic training and specialized tactics to operate successfully in the most dangerous environments in the world. Assigns other instructors and role players as needed to assist in training presentations. Evaluates trainees' progress, and advises trainees in improving performance; recommends additional training as needed, and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of completed training courses.
Develops new training courses within the framework of approved training objectives. Recommends and/or initiates updates and revisions to policies and procedures as necessary that will enable DS Special Agents and others receiving PRS training, to perform optimally, both domestically and abroad, in conjunction with protective security precedent.
