JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of and reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Designer & Engineering Technician provides design services, prepares bills of materials and product operating and maintenance manuals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires education generally equivalent to an associate degree in mechanical design and 6 to 12 months related experience in bill of material preparation and design techniques.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as bill of material and design related correspondence. Ability to write reports and prepare operating and maintenance related manuals. Ability to speak effectively to employees, vendors, and customers concerning design and bill of materials related matters.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to make calculations relating to product design and bill of material preparation techniques.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: The employee must possess good oral communication skills to discuss design procedures and bill of material related matters with customers, sales representatives, and production personnel. The employee must also be able to operate a variety of office equipment such as a telephone, calculator, facsimile machine, and a data entry terminal, and personal computer.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, as you would expect in an office environment.
COMMENTS: Regular attendance is also required.
