The City of Manassas Metering Department is looking for a candidate that can perform daily service work involving connection and disconnection of energized meter services. This position also serves as lead worker for the Meter Technician I role and backup for the Meter Services Supervisor.
The hiring range for this position will be $19.51 - $25.85 per hour/DOQ
Some of the main duties and responsibilities for this position are listed below:
Receives daily service orders regarding connection and disconnection of energized electric and water meters; carries out disconnection of services in the field as well as bulk disconnects in the office utilizing Yukon with the under glass disconnects of electrical services due to non-payment of utility services; and completes service orders in assigned computer system as well as duplicates work in Munis while in testing phase.
Installs electric meters for new installation of service; performs voltage tests before energizing service to ensure safety of service and meet all City and State guidelines and requirements; and installs water meters for new services.
Investigates, documents, and reports current diversion and other unsafe meter conditions and abnormal or hazardous system conditions observed in the field to supervisor.
Performs electric checks on electric service while energized, using appropriate personal protective equipment provided to determine compliance with electrical standards for voltage and current for size of service provided.
Inspects electrical and water services for any irregularities and damaged equipment; repairs and replaces as needed and reports to supervisor.
Troubleshoots any AMI water or electric nodes that have failed to read using the Trimble handheld computer device. Repairs, replaces and programs nodes as needed to maintain Yukon read percentages.
Performs field training/testing for Meter Technician I position.
Refers to customer account information, electric voltage, policy and procedure manuals, codes/ laws/regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.
Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment, machinery, tools, and supplies such as volt meter, field electric tester, battery operated hedge trimmers, electric and water meters, meter seals, wire, wire cutters, wrench, rubber gloves, keys, standard office tools, and others in order to complete work assignments
Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing MVRS, AS400, Daffron, Munis, Yukon, Microsoft Outlook, word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, or other software, and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions. Assists with testing of new billing software (Munis).
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Meter Services Supervisor, Customer Service staff, Billing staff, coworkers, and the general public as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Assumes duties of Meter Services Supervisor during his/her absence.

High School diploma or GED and Vocational/Technical certification in related field required; supplemented by two (2) years' experience in meter reading/maintenance and/or general electrical service and repair work; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.
Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license.
