          Job Description

          Job Purpose:

          We are seeking an outstanding candidate to join the NAM Rates Valuation Control team.

          The Valuation Control team is a key function within the Product Control organization, providing important independent oversight regarding valuations.

          This role is responsible for all aspects of valuation control, including calculation of price verification results, determination of valuation adjustments, validation of model inputs, interpretation of results, and reporting to key stakeholders.

          The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of managing a team of analysts; including staffing, onboarding, performance assessment, career feedback and providing development opportunities.

          The role requires a strong understanding of financial markets dynamics, including technical understanding of all interest rate derivative products.  

          The role requires a strong governance mind set, ensuring methodological consistency implemented in a well-documented and operationally sound framework.

          The successful candidate will be able to interact effectively with senior management, traders and quantitative specialists, auditors and regulators. As such, the successful candidate must be able to convey complex ideas concisely and effectively, to a broad audience.

          Job Background / context:

          The Valuation Control Group (VCG) is an independent global group within Product Control, responsible for ensuring the firm's inventory is fairly valued.

          VCG is organized along business lines.  Clients of the group include Business Heads, Product Control, Market Risk, Model Risk, Compliance, Legal, Middle Office, Internal Audit, external audit firms and multiple regulatory bodies.

          VCG collaborates closely with its client base to ensure complete understanding of business valuation issues, and ultimately, to ensure accurate execution of valuation control policy.

          Key Responsibilities:

          People Management and Leadership

          • Strong team leadership characteristics, maintaining a clear structure of accountability
          • Ability to influence regional IPV leads (within the Rates VCG team) and global internal partners (trading business, risk) as part of the global champion role

          • Ownership of all valuation-related reporting for the relevant NAM businesses within the Business, including clear and effective presentation of results and articulation of main issues
          • Ensuring consistency of methodologies across desks and regions
          • Act as a senior partner to the Business, Risk, Compliance and Finance in relation to valuation matters


          • Act as a senior point of contact with external audit and regulatory bodies, responsible for all aspects of valuation related reporting and controls

          The successful candidate will be required to play a leadership role within the Global Product Control organization, by demonstrating a wide range of skills related to Citi's global pricing policy.


          • Financial markets experience and products knowledge, including derivatives and bonds
          • Strong working knowledge of Excel functions
          • Experience in valuation, product control, profit and loss reporting, risk or other related finance or controllers function.
          • Familiarity with accounting and regulatory developments pertaining to financial instruments (e.g., IBOR)
          • Ability to develop an understanding of complex valuation concepts and effectively challenge peers
          • Strong communication skills, written and oral

          • Bachelor's degree required; Masters or MBA preferred
          • 5+ years of professional experience in Finance or related quantitative field
