          Job Description

          PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITY: The Dental Director is a senior-level administrative position with responsibility for all dental services at FHC sites. This responsibility includes the authority to oversee all aspects of dental care delivery, regulatory compliance, quality, efficiency, and the supervision of all dentists and dental hygienists. The Dental Director is directly accountable to FHC Chief Executive Officer. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES 1) Dentist Provider (Refer to Dentist Job Description) a) Works as clinical provider 2) Health Care Plan a) The Dental Director shall formulate, implement, and supervise the Center's Health Care Plan as it relates to the provision of dental services b) The Health Care Plan shall constitute an organized blueprint of the strategy and logistics of the health Services provided by FHC · The formula is based on community dental needs, an epidemiological survey of the Service Area, and general demographics · It is used to generate an accurate assessment of the patient's health care needs · The Health Care Plan shall be reviewed annually and modified as necessary in collaboration with the Medical Director 3) Supervise Dental Providers a) Reviews applications , interviews, and recommends to the CEO potential dental staff b) Evaluates Dentists and Hygienists or delegates evaluation of Hygienist to another Dentist c) Provides feedback to each provider regarding: · Encounter data · Peer review data · Team feedback d) Chairs regular provider meetings to keep dental clinical staff apprised of current corporate Goals and Objectives as they pertain to dental services and encourage patterns of care directed toward the accomplishment of these Goals and Objectives e) Maintains strict compliance with the state and federal practice guidelines. f) Assures that continued dental education, skills, and training for all clinical staff are maintained as required to ensure high levels of professional competency. g) Stimulates collegiality among clinical staff so that cooperative allegiance and productive thinking is cultivated h) Provides leadership to the dental care team in all disciplines in their pursuit of operating an efficient self-sustaining department i) Sets an example to peers and subordinates by demonstrating exemplary dental and moral ethics 4) Preceptor Responsibilities Appropriately serves as preceptor to new dentists and hygienists as needed 5) Liaison a) Maintains communication between the dental clinical staff and the Medical Director b) Maintains professional relationships with the dental providers in the community c) Participates in external dental community activities which may have a positive influence on either the clinical operation or the health of all citizens in the FHC's service area d) Whenever feasible, represents FHC at WACMHC, NWRPCA, and NACHC meetings to keep abreast of current health issues and maintain a positive corporate exposure 6) Clinic Administration a) Advises the CEO in the deployment of dental providers in order to maximize the skills and knowledge of all individuals b) Delegates work and responsibilities as appropriate in fulfilling the mission c) Provides leadership/oversight of the QI process for all dental programs d) Monitors and intervenes appropriately in clinical management areas e) Reviews, formulates, and implements specific operational protocols for the FHC Dental Clinic to include: triage methods, patient flow patterns, referral and tracking procedures and screening services within the health maintenance structure g) Assists with training and coaching of Dental Assistant staff; provides input on clinical Performance to Assistant Dental Director for Dental Assistant evaluations 7) Corporate Compliance a) Participates in Management Team meetings b) Formulates goals and objectives as they relate to patient health management c) Attends monthly meetings of the Board of Directors and deals with areas under his/her Jurisdiction either by review or as requested by the Board d) Assists the CEO in the fiscal management of clinical support activities in order to maintain The highest quality of service in the daily operation of a sound dental facility e) Participates in FHC strategic planning activities as related to dental services 8) Dental Program Affiliations a) Plans, organizes, implements educational programs with dental training centers for the purpose of training dental students b) Monitors adequacy of staff support for training programs c) Ensures provider/preceptor preparation and ongoing training to provide instruction consistent with dental training program standards 9) Attendance a) Ensures attendance and hours worked are accurately recorded in computerized timekeeping system b) Properly manages paid vacation and sick leave c) Responsible for regular, predictable attendance and to work hours as scheduled, which may include evenings or weekends GENERAL DEVELOPMENT 1) Time management skills to ensure administrative responsibilities completed on schedule 2) Ability to work independently and efficiently multi-task 3) Provide goal oriented direction to the organization 4) Job duties requires high level organizational skills to provide guidance to the team 5) Requires that individual set priorities in order to function efficiently 6) Exercise effective leadership skills 7) Practice diligent monitoring of organizational functions to maximize performance 8) Requires knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, production methods and coordination of people and resources 9) Understands and applies comprehensive knowledge of program activities and their impact on the company's strategic mission 10) Applies broad authority to exercise independence and initiative within program and company goals PROFESSIONAL &TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE Job duties require knowledge and training specific to the discipline of dentistry acquired in a formal dental training program. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Individual must be licensed to practice dentistry in the State of Washington. TECHNICAL SKILLS 1) Ability to prepare basic correspondence and simple reports using computer. 2) Ability to create, send and manage email. 3) Ability to prepare and utilize computer spreadsheets 4) Ability to access and complete data entry in the Electronic Practice Management (EPM) program 5) Ability to access web-based applications and other computer programs. 6) Fully functional in the use of the Electronic Dental Record (EDR) program COMMUNICATION SKILLS 1) Employee is required to effectively communicate using FHC's core values; the Core Dimensions a) Respect-using manners and appropriate language; maintaining a person's dignity and confidentiality; giving credit where due; asking others for their input and feedback b) Empathy-to show someone you understand what they are feeling without judgment; engaged listening with no distractions; acknowledgment and paraphrasing; eye contact c) Genuineness-tone of voice and body language are congruent; showing consistent behaviors over time; integrity (follow-through and follow-up); humility (admitting when a mistake is made) d) Specificity-what details can you give so someone knows what "excellence" looks like; models or samples; one-on-one mentoring; alternate plans 2) Job duties require employee to provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers 3) Educates patients and family members, as indicated, regarding examination findings and proposed treatment 4) Coordinates dental care with medical providers and specialists 5) Knowledgeable and accountable for the dental department program in response to Management Team initiatives and objectives WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in any of the dental clinics as needed, occasionally requiring transportation distant sites. Participation with dental outreach, screenings requires transportation to any of a number of schools in the Area.
