    A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CABLE HEADEND TECHNICIAN

    As a Cable Headend Technician, you address maintenance and outage issues on the cable broadband network with your exceptional RF Troubleshooting skills. Using your in-depth understanding of the nuances of legacy and new headend infrastructure/equipment, including the "gotchas" of break/fix and migration challenges you can quickly identify issues and resolve them.

    Your knowledge about the signal flow and layout of the headend makes you great at your job! You create drawings of the inside plant to show rack elevations, a birds-eye view, locations, and wire pathways. You decide where new equipment will be placed, what parts will be needed, what the power needs will be, where connections should be, and what modifications will be needed, and if any critical infrastructure augments such as a DC or HVAC upgrades will be needed. Holding quality and production to a maximum standard, you may manage other ISP vendors to support DC, RF, and fiber infrastructure wiring. You may also perform several fiber audits, provide access to vendors and support the headend team in other activities. If needed, you assist them in mitigation of issues or migration of equipment. You find your job very engaging!

    QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CABLE HEADEND TECHNICIAN

    • Experience working in the cable industry, specifically a cable headend/hub is a MUST
    • Experience working in and around fiber bays, DC plant, headend equipment
    • Specific hands-on experience with cable node splits
    • Expertise with CCAP and non-CCAP deployments, headend to hub to node fiber architecture, and DC plant & RF capacity
    • Advanced knowledge of AC/DC power, equipment cooling requirements, fiber, RF, and Network connectivity
    • Understanding of legacy and advanced CATV broadband technologies and architectures
