Special Counsel is currently recruiting a Director of Business Development for a regional law firm. The Director of Business Development will be responsible for managing the firm's business development initiatives by proactively identifying, qualifying and helping to close new business opportunities. This position can be remote or resident in the Cleveland Office.
Responsibilities:Develop and execute the firm's overall business development strategy, including marketing/sales qualifications and sales pipeline processIdentify strategies and opportunities for new and existing client relationshipsServe an integral role in new business pitches, helping to develop effective proposals and pitch presentations as needed in collaboration with attorneys and the Marketing teamContinue to refine fixed fee scoping process and managed all fixed fee scopingManage the firm's sales pipeline to track sales activity as well as the results and outcomes of proposals, pitches and RFPsManage firm business relationshipsProvide one-on-one and group coaching to attorneys in support of overall business development strategy, specific plans and other initiativesWork with attorneys to understand existing clients and cross-sell/up-sell opportunitiesConduct competitive and industry intelligenceCoordinate detailed client research analyses and business intelligenceResearch and recommend new business potentials and targeting and segmentation strategiesManage sales and marketing efforts for the firm's technology entityWork closely with individual attorneys to leverage and support business development, community and philanthropic activitiesProvide marketing communications support to external business development programManage team of Business Unit Managers (responsibilities include CRM management, sales pipeline management and project management)
Qualifications:Bachelor's degree required.6+ years of experience in professional services sales, with law firm experience preferred but not required.Prior experience managing and collaborating with cross-functional team members, staff and/or interns.Knowledge and experience with CRM, sales pipeline software and sales leads toolsProven results identifying sales prospects and securing business, preferably in a professional services environmentExperience with cross-selling initiativesProven leader with demonstrated success leading large-scale, client-focused business development initiativesStrong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and HubSpotExcellent organizational and communication skillsCreative and high energy; results and detail-orientedAbility to work well under pressureStrong team player with ability to work independently and effectively with minimum supervision and/or direction in a fast-paced, dynamic environmentAbility to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate level of discretionAbility to manage multiple projects, deadlines and priorities from competing interestsAbility to accommodate regularly scheduled before and after hours meetings, events and activitiesSome travel required
