Job Description
Marczyk Fine Foods prides itself on being a world-class neighborhood market, and any great neighborhood market has a great deli. The Grab & Go Production Staff are the part of our team focused on efficiently producing the high-quality grab & go sandwiches that our customers expect. Grab & Go Production Staff members are responsible for maintaining stock levels of premade sandwiches through proper ordering, preparation, and menu execution. They assist in receiving product for the department, keeping the walk-in storage organized, and ensuring proper rotation (FIFO) for optimal freshness. Grab & Go Production Staff members are an essential part in optimizing revenue streams through cross-departmental integration of product.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
Customer Service
- Greets customers as they approach the deli and offers assistance as needed
- Actively sells charcuterie items in a confident, knowledgeable, and friendly manner
- Proactively offers product samples to customers
- Takes customer orders in a friendly and helpful manner, and ensures that customer specifications are clearly understood
- Implements the '5 Steps to Make It Right' when a customer has a problem with our products or services
- Answers customer questions promptly, or finds a staff member who can
- Channels customer feedback and product suggestions to the Deli Lead
- Gathers and communicates necessary information to department managers and the Purchasing Office when a special order or catering order is requested
- Offers recipe suggestions, substitutions, and adjustments to customers as needed
Shift Preparation
- Ensures that all charcuterie items are stored in a manner that provides optimal freshness and presentation of product
- Produces all needed par bags, from retrieval of product to labeling and initialing, in time for 11 AM lunch rush; or ensures that AM staff is able to do so
- Prepares and readies vegetables, breads, sauces, and other items for sandwich production; completes this process in time for 11 AM lunch rush; or ensures that AM staff is able to do so
- Maintains par levels for sandwich meats and cheeses and keep the block stocked with vegetables and sauces
- As needed, cooks or heats product in the oven to food safe temperatures and in accordance with Marczyk expectations of quality
- Prepares and packages hot-held grab & go sandwiches in a presentable fashion befitting a world-class neighborhood market
- Fills charcuterie and grab & go cases and displays as instructed by the Deli Lead
- Assists receiver in putting away orders and effectively rotating stock for optimal freshness of product (FIFO)
- Understands and adjusts to any space restrictions and/or shared space concerns
- Readies self and the working area in a timely manner
- Prepares working area for maximum efficiency
Order Completion
- Performs preparation of product (charcuterie items, sandwiches, catering trays) to customer specifications, and makes product ready for sale (packaging, labelling, ensuring correct price)
- Effectively adjusts working area to accommodate menu changes, as necessary
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
Cleaning
- Takes care of spills, broken glass, and damaged product immediately, or seeks help in doing so
- Maintains clean equipment, tools, uniform, and general work area, as befits a world-class market
Communication
- Communicates with team-mates and Lead throughout shifts, giving regular updates on ongoing tasks and activities
- Gives and receives positive and constructive feedback to and from teammates
- Attends and actively participates in team meetings
- Communicates with other departments to mitigate waste and accomplish tasks as necessary
Safety
- Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all food and work safety guidelines as mandated by applicable government agencies (i.e. Health Department, OSHA, etc.)
- Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all Marczyk's food and work safety rules
- Honestly and accurately fills out all necessary documentation relevant to job functions (i.e. temperature logs, communication logs, etc.)
- Displays a concern for the safety and well-being of all customers and co-workers through words and actions
- Provides prompt, critical, and documented feedback concerning any known safety hazards, injuries, or near misses
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
- Interest in eating well and preparing food
- Comfort with knives, slicers, ovens, and other kitchen equipment
- Willingness to make a 1-year, verbal commitment to stability in the position as a definition of successful employment
- Creativity in problem solving
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Prove ability to take direction and criticism, work efficiently, and be adaptable to change
- Is able to effectively manage emotions in the workplace
- Able to work a varied schedule including days, evenings, weekends, & holidays
- If full-time, must have a minimum of 6 days of full availability -or- 5 days full and 2 days partial
- If part-time, must have a minimum of 5 days of full availability -or- 4 days full and 2 days partial -or- 3 days full and 4 days partial
- Mathematical proficiency and analytical business skills to perform required functions
- Willing to learn and become proficient with ECRS Catapult software
- Able to repetitively lift 50 lbs, bend, stoop, and stand for long periods of time
- Able to work effectively within a diverse group of people
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One (1) year of deli, line cook, or related job experience
- Familiarity with order building software (ECRS Catapult or similar)
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel
- Passion for the fine art of salesmanship
