As a member of the Corporate Functions Analytical High Energy Scattering capability the successful candidate will lead independent and collaborative research into complex materials (hard- and soft-matter) that apply to the consumer products industry. The individual will grow new capabilities for microstructure characterization leveraging a state-of-the-art SAXS and XRD laboratory as well as external high energy scattering resources at academic and national labs. In this role, the individual will enable development of superior consumer product innovations by developing new insights and parametric assessments of structure-function relationships. As part of a global research and development organization the individual will collaborate within multidisciplinary teams and be challenged by a wide variety of technical problems. The role offers the opportunity to embrace new and emerging capabilities in measurement and data processing tools and demonstrate their utility for consumer products research.
We are looking for someone with a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science/Engineering or related areas who has research experience with hands-on measurement and complex materials technical problem solving involving the application of hard- and soft- matter scattering. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and team engagement / interpersonal skills and have demonstrated leadership in collaborative research.
We seek someone with expertise in high energy, X-ray and Neutron scattering. The specific measurement capability skills of interest include Glazing incidence, Small- and Wide-angle scattering (GI / SAXS / WAXS / SANS/ WANS), and single crystal structure analysis. Programming skills in data reduction and analysis in Python or related languages and current or aspiring skills in Artificial intelligence, Deep Learning and large data handling will be advantageous.
Familiarity with synchrotron / neutron facilities is a plus. The individual will have opportunities to engage with high energy scattering facilities on behalf of Procter & Gamble, such as Brookhaven National Labs, Advanced Photo Source, European Synchrotron Radiation Facility or National Institute of Standards and Technology.
