      Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls (WMRC) is a non-profit music and mentoring organization in NYC that empowers girls, women and/or gender non-binary youth and adults through music education, volunteerism, and activities that foster self-respect, leadership, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. We believe that positioning people who have historically been silenced because of their gender and racial identity to experience the burst of confidence and self-efficacy that comes from learning to play an instrument, writing original music, performing, and engaging in social justice conversations with peers and mentors across the socio-economic spectrum, builds the next generation of musical activists who will define leadership, creative innovation, and civic engagement for generations to come.       About the Role - Co-Executive Director of Operations, Development, & Strategy

      Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls (WMRC) seeks an inspiring, mission-aligned collaborator to co-lead our dynamic organization. Together with Lafrae Sci , Co-Executive Director of Artistic Programs, you will build upon the organization's award-winning music programs, deepening WMRC's impact on the people we serve.

      You're a leader and builder who guides passionate teams to success. You will first be prepared to listen, to understand, and empathize with our growing and diverse community. You'll know how to enlist funders and supporters. But most importantly, you will know what it takes to galvanize people around a shared cause.

      This is a unique opportunity for an executive with strong vision, operational skills, a proven development track record, and an orientation towards relationship management to join a growing, unique, and bold mission-driven organization in a key leadership role.

      Our Vision for Shared Leadership

      The decision to have Co-Executive Directors was intentional and reflects the leadership vision of our board and community. Traditional hierarchical structures often run counter to on-the-ground, meaningful, social change work.

      We see the two roles as true equals and both will report directly to the board. Lafrae - a founding teaching member of WMRC, multi-instrumentalist, educator, and composer - will play an active role in the hiring process for this role and we are excited to find someone to complement the wealth of experience and talents she brings to the table.

      While this leadership arrangement is bound to have its challenges, we are confident that having Co-Executive Directors will allow us to increase our impact while better serving our community. We are looking for applicants who buy into this vision for leadership.

      Lead Responsibilities

      Fundraising and Communication

      • Manage part-time fundraising and communications team, including Development & Communications Coordinator and Grant Researcher/Writer; run weekly team meetings.
      • Shape annual development plan and oversee implementation; hit or exceed annual targets.
      • Oversee individual fundraising, including prospect research, stewarding new and existing donors, drafting correspondence, and following up on inquiries.
      • Advance corporate sponsorship program, including prospect research, proposals, and cultivation.
      • Utilize networks to diversify revenue, identify new funding sources, and opportunities for revenue generation.
      • Oversee the institutional fundraising calendar, ensuring proposals and reports are submitted in a timely manner and prospective and active funders receive ongoing cultivation and stewardship touchpoints.
      • Design, direct, and implement fundraising events, including the annual gala.

      Organizational and Financial Leadership

      • Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the organization.
      • Collaborate with staff and Board to develop an annual budget and provide quarterly financial reports, including updates on both revenue and expenses.
      • Identify technology tools and other resources to ensure administrative and programmatic efficiency.
      • Work with bookkeeper and accountant to produce annual financial documents, including 990 and financial statement review.
      • Responsible for the creation, review, implementation, and adherence to the annual budget.

      Shared Responsibilities

      These are responsibilities that will be shared with the Co-Executive Director of Artistic Programs.

      • Responsible for hiring, coaching, counseling, mentoring, and directing all staff in a supportive and respectful environment.
      • Create team culture and structures that are thoughtful and effective, and positioned around social justice and anti-oppression practices.
      • Act as organizational representatives at meetings with current and prospective partners.
      • Create and maintain meaningful partnerships with organizations that are in alignment with the work and mission of WMRC.
      • Prepare reports for board meetings; attend and actively participate in all board meetings.
      • Help design, deliver, and participate in an annual board retreat.

      What You Bring

      • 7+ years of overall professional experience with experience in nonprofit leadership, education, fundraising, or related role.
      • Analytical Approach - You monitor traction and then anchor your creativity in what the data shows.
      • Board Know-how - A track record of working collaboratively with a Board of Directors; ability to cultivate existing board member relationships; experienced in board recruitment and development.
      • Strong project management skills and process improvement experience, alongside an ability to anticipate, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.
      • Impeccable organization - You are highly detail-oriented, and someone who gets a real sense of satisfaction from producing polished work and managing smooth and orderly processes.
      • Passion for growth - You possess an extreme desire to cultivate the organization and expand the newly implemented virtual portfolio of Willie Mae.
      • Commitment to Inclusion - You have the awareness and understanding to effectively work with and support low-income and diverse communities. You're also always asking: "Whose voice is not at the table?"

      Benefits and Compensation

      We plan to offer a salary that is competitive in the market for smaller nonprofits. Our annual budget is ~$450,000 and with your leadership, we hope to substantially increase that. We are also open to hiring someone for 4 days per week if that works better for you. Health insurance benefits are available.
