                    Job Description

                    Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE)

                    The Nurse Practitioner provides high quality, evidence-based primary health care for a diverse population in the Student Health Center, incorporating direct patient care, counseling and health education. This includes performing various duties associated with the delivery of acute ambulatory care, management of chronic disease and completion of administrative duties as assigned by the supervising Medical Director.



                    • Provides the full spectrum of health care services to include health promotion, disease prevention, anticipatory guidance, counseling and disease management
                    • Assesses, diagnoses and treats acute illnesses, injuries and manages chronic health conditions
                    • Develops a treatment plan based on assessment to include obtaining appropriate diagnostic laboratory and radiologic tests, prescribing appropriate medications and treatments, providing follow-up care and evaluating effectiveness of care
                    • Performs minor surgical procedures
                    • Counsels patients for physical and mental health problems
                    • Promotes self-care by patients, when appropriate
                    • Confers with medical specialists and clinical psychologists for appropriate management of medical and psychiatric problems
                    • Initiates referrals to medical specialists, urgent care centers or emergency rooms for care beyond the scope of the Student Health Center
                    • Coordinates care, as necessary, with a patient's primary or treating physician regarding management of acute and chronic illnesses


                    • Attends medical staff meetings
                    • Attends all in-service training and staff development programs
                    • Other duties as assigned

                    Professional Development:

                    • Participates in peer review, chart review and all Quality Assurance/ Quality Improvement activities
                    • Demonstrates a consistent pattern of professional growth
                    • Participates in CME activities to guarantee renewal of licensure and maintenance of clinical competencies

                    WORK HOURS

                    • Full-time, exempt position
                    • This will be a 10-month position (August 1 - May 31)
                    • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week 

                    SALARY STRUCTURE:
                    Pay Grade 9 (Hiring Range $70,887.00 to $97,475.00 annually)

                    • Expertise in delivery of outpatient/ambulatory care for a young adult population required
                    • Basic CPR certification required within 30 days of hire
                    • Computer literacy with experience in electronic health records required
                    • Excellent primary care clinical skills: diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic disease, health maintenance, crisis intervention, uncomplicated orthopedic problems, psychiatric illness, contraception and sexual health
                    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
                    • Thorough knowledge of applicable State and Federal laws and regulations

                    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

                    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year undergraduate college/university required
                    • Completion of a graduate program (Master of Nursing (MSN) /Nurse Practitioner program) from an accredited institution is required
                    • Current Virginia Prescriptive authority required
                    • Certification as a Family, Adult or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner required
                    • Current DEA certificate required
                    • Minimum two years of experience as a primary care nurse practitioner in an ambulatory care setting
                    • Experience in college health and/or adolescent medicine preferred
