PRODUCE MANAGER Job Description Reports to: Store Manager Status: Hourly range based on experience. POSITION SUMMARY: Fresh produce is among the most sought after products by our customers and is considered a key department in our stores. The Produce Manager is responsible for managing department inventory, in-stock position, pricing integrity, merchandising, labor, and other operational processes to company standards to maximize sales and gross profit. This position ensures all new department associates receive proper training and supervision and will ensure correct ordering, receiving, unloading, storage, and rotation of merchandise and building of displays. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: I. SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP OF PRODUCE • Effectively and efficiently manage all aspects of produce operations based on goals, objectives and standards established by Store Manager. • Supervision of produce team members • Ensure compliance of all store personnel with established policies and procedures. • Follow Manager Code of Conduct and Servant Leadership principles to promote team building and motivate staff. • Treat team members with consistency and fairness • Ensure that communications are clear, direct, and respectful. • Ensure professional and friendly service from all produce team members. • Ensure inventory is timely and accurate.
II. PRODUCE OPERATIONS • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws: permits, health regulations, organic standards. • Ensure smooth flow of produce operations on a day-to-day basis. • Ensure updates on special produce needs that arise for holidays, as well as trends in cooking and recipes that affect consumer demand. • Ensures produce is well stocked with appealing and abundant sets and displays and fresh products. • Ensures proper cleanliness and appearance to ensure customer satisfaction and compliance with all codes. • Maintain security of equipment, inventory, team members and customers • Maintain an inventory that is seasonal, tasty, and visually attractive • Ensure accurate and timely ordering to prevent losses that result from produce that spoils before it can be sold • Process paperwork in a timely and accurate manner • Make recommendations to the Store Manager regarding changes in policies and procedures • Perform other tasks as assigned by Store Manager III. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Requires standing, walking, bending, throughout the entire work day and the ability to lift, stack and maneuver heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs. • Requires standing up to 4 hours continuously, and a total of 8 or more hours per shift • Requires acute vision for cutting, trimming, washing, and banding produce • Must be able to work in a freezer • Must be able to pass a drug test • Weekend, evening and holiday work will be required in the position, flexible store assignments IV. FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY • Create department financial plan working with Store Manager and Director of Produce. • Execute and monitor Produces financial plan.
